Spicer's is a full-service marina located in historic Noank Village. With a fully stocked store, bait and tackle shop, restaurant and more, this is the perfect spot to spend your summer weekends!
The area around my dock looks like a dumping zone, parking is severely limited, the docks and carts are in poor condition, bathrooms closed on weekends without prior notice. No onsite manager and the prices have risen close to 30% in 4 years!
Pass on this place. This is for local boaters and if you're a transient boater like us, they will put you on a mooring ball at the harbor entrance. Any south through southwest wind will rock you hard all night. Compounding that is the total disregard of the posted no-wake by the locals and the Fisher Island ferry. Unbelievable. Forget the "free laundry"... one load in the washer took 90 minutes and the dryer tumbles but no heat comes on. Total waste of time and sadly, my wife selected this marina for the laundry access. Communication is not this marina's strong point. The girl answering my third call to their harbor master should never pickup a microphone again until she has some serious training as to who she is, who she works for, the reason for that position to be staffed, her role in the Communication process, what a boater calling her might ask, and most importantly... how to respond in a timely manner with something intelligent to say. Additionally, the whole marina campus is scattered, buildings in disrepair and void of any markings. When you find the ship store, you may notice that most of the merch isn't marked with a price. Be very careful here. It takes them about 5-10 minutes to lookup the price for a gallon of oil which was part of a large display of oil, but without a price. Here's the problem... they quoted one price for the oil then quoted a $10 higher price for the same oil 30 minutes later after after I repositioned my tender to minimize my walk with 6 gallons of oil. I don't know what is going on in Connecticut but one thing is certain, their public school system has failed these people.
Docks are secure behind a breakwater, but the entrance shallow and not well marked. Service was fine. Slips were tight. Asked for an easy tie-up and got a tight slip even though there was plenty of space on long docks. Perhaps I could have communicated better.
We actually stayed at their sister marina, Noank Shipyard as they weren’t able to moor our 23 ft beam cat. Tommy was very professional and accommodating. He recommended a great place to eat. Thanks. We will stay again in future trips.
2 stars because the people I've dealt with are nice and the location can't be beat. That said the place is a mess. The management is extremely nickel dime. The way they charge for mast handling is ridiculous for a couple of reasons. The docks are in terrible condition, the finger dock my boat is tied up to is a gravel walkway because the top surface is crumbling. I have been a customer there for 5 years and there were always two dumpsters. This year, in what's clearly to save money, there is only one dumpster. Today, the Tuesday after Memorial Day there is trash all over the ground because the dumpster was overfilled. I wish I could attach pictures.
First 1 year so far so good I am looking forward to having the work finished and launched per requested date with all in good working order.
I have spent the last two winters at Spicer's. It is very safe, well protected with a strong stable dock system. I plan to return.
Crowded marina, tight slips, no dock hands… I won’t go back
Stayed on a mooring outside the harbor very quiet and easy walk to some restaurants.
