Octane: 89; Ethanol: 10%*Please note: Due to shifting sands, the marked channel in the Harbor has changed as of October 2022. The outside approach up to Marker #12 remains the same. The channel heads due North at #12. The Coast Guard has placed the buoys marking the new channel. The old channel to the West should not be used. Please make yourself aware of the changes before you embark either out of or into Westport Harbor in Spring 2023.
We have a number of transient moorings available. They are usually in the West End of the mooring field and are marked with a small yellow float.

Difficult Harbor to come in for a Sailboat drafting 6 ft. Not well marked and Harbor Master no where to be seen. Decided to skip
I had a big mechanical problem upon arrival. The next morning, the marina was very helpful and responsive and got me on my way early, even though they had much work ahead of me. Much appreciated. Good harbor and marina has decent showers, rest rooms etc.
Below was our review from a couple of years ago. Still a great place to visit. Excellent, friendly staff, beautiful location. Could not ask for more. ———————————- 2nd time here and again enjoyed the stay. Tripp is wonderfully old school and no frills but staff is friendly and helpful. New moorings are a bit further from the dock but in a very pretty location and easy to pick up in the significant current. Beach is beautiful and the Westport Harbor Sea Farms Oyster Bar at the head of the harbor is great, complete with dinghy dock. No problems with depth in the channel. Departed one hour after low and saw nothing less than 9-10 ft. Update July 2022. Still a great stop and friendly crew but call Tripp or Harbor Master for instructions. Serious shoaling in parts of the channel. Mid tide and several 6’ spots.
Very well organized marina, professional and courteous staff, clean facilities. Four stars only because there was no hot water in men's showers.
Very hospitable. An easy to access marina with proper facilities. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.
Great People! We desperately needed new batteries. I sent a message through Dockwa, on a Friday, which was answered within 30 minutes. Then they called. They had our batteries for us Monday afternoon. Hurricane Lee is on the radar and they were very busy pulling boats out. But they found the time to help us on short notice. And charged a fair charge. Craig was extremely helpful and clearly loves what he does. We were on a mooring and they have a launch service also.
Tripps is still a classic boatyard. All you need without a lot more. Friendly, knowledgeable staff.
Last weekend we ran into serious electrical trouble, setting off a chain of bad events that continued to compound. We needed to get our 6’7” draft sailboat to a safe harbor up the river at low tide and against a brutal current Got on the radio and the guys at Tripp talked us in and took great care of us and all our needs for 4 days. The staff was so helpful and knowledgeable that I ended up leaving the boat there for the week so we could get some work done. The launch service is outstanding, and the entire staff made us feel welcome. Great place
Nice mooring field Phenomenal launch service Very very friendly
Peaceful night, beautiful river, friendly helpful staff.
We love Tripps. Friendly and helpful staff, beautiful spot, reasonable fuel prices, and walking distance to one of our favorite restaurants. Tripp is an old school type of marina that I remember as a kid in the 1970's and 1980's before big corporations bought up many of the marinas. Still a hidden gem.
Excellent night on one of their moorings. The entrance channel (August 2023) is well marked but recently moved so didn't line up with my charts. Was easy to follow the markers though. Mooring had a beautiful view of the marsh and river with Herons and Egrets working the flats during sunset. Launch service took us right to the restaurant. The beach is a short walk from the Marina of if you have a dinghy there's lots of beaches, sandbars and places to explore on your own. The yacht club next door has a great breakfast that is open to the public. When picking up the mooring I recommend having a bow line ready to feed through the pendant and back to your cleat. Due to the strong current, the mooring ball is tide to the pendant which is under-water. Once I realized how they had it set up it was easy run my bow line through pendant, just had to give a little more power than usual to slack up the mooring line and lift it high enough to run the line through. Great trip - will definitely be heading back.
Ian the launch driver was excellent as was the Sea Farms oyster bar.
Second stay this Summer -responsive and good mooring location. Facilities are nice and they have a great Store with anything you could need
Bill auerbach is a nice guy and very informative
Excellent little spot. Great and friendly staff. Very helpful. First time visiting but will be back
Good location at the entrance to Buzzards Bay. Facilities are fair, dinghy docks overcrowded, bathrooms/showers/laundry are adequate. Launch service responsive and reliable (CH9), excellent service department and ship's store. I've been mooring there for 20 years because it's equally convenient access either to the Vineyard or Newport, and seasonal prices are reasonable. Seldom spend the winters there because with a crane but no travel lift I'm required to unstep the mast. Westport harbor is great. Easy dinghy access to beaches near Horseneck Beach, good restaurant within walking distance, excellent upscale supermarket (Lee's) is a 4 mile Uber. Maybe they deliver...? Be prepared for the strong Westport River current. Channel shoaled last year to an unmarked, local knowledge nail biter, but for 2023 the new channel is well defined with lighted nun buoys (don't be distracted by the flashing reds if you approach from the sound after dark). A quaint, old school New England port, well worth a visit, not yet heavily trafficked, exploring the river and estuaries is great by paddle board, kayak, or fast dinghy.
This is a yearly destination for us. The Staff is outstanding and so helpful! There are beautiful Osprey nests and watching their behavior is so much fun. The area is so Pristine and protected. The Back Eddy Restaurant is still fantastic! You can Dinghy right up to the inner beach and then walk Horseneck. Pretty shells and huge surf clam shells are abundant. This is the greatest hidden location!!!
Nice harbor. Very busy on a summer Saturday but quieted right down over night.
Great customer service.
Going to Westport MA is a special treat. If you like nature, this is the spot. Seabirds, a dozen active Osprey nests and fish life like we've never seen before. F L Tripp has a long history as a family operation with nice, nice people that takes good care of their customers. On our most recent stay, we had engine trouble while leaving the harbor at the end of our stay. We grabbed on to a mooring as our engine died and radioed Tripp. They were very concerned. They were short staffed that day. Within 5 minutes they were back to me. The boss, a topnotch mechanic, would be right out - engine fixed and on our way. They also have a great launch service that will take you to a nice seafood restaurant on the water and pick you up after. This is a cruising highlight.
First time. Will be back. Super friendly staff. Helped us navigate the tricky channel and guided us to our mooring and made sure we were tied up correctly. Spent time giving us recommendations. The river inlet is beautiful and protected. Sandbar at low tide where all the locals go. Great place.
More of a boatyard than marina. Moorings were not properly rigged to pick up pennants with bosthook, often pennants were badly fouled with chain.
Friendly staff, good fuel, basic facilities, it all works. Very nice resteraunt down the road, walking distance. Channel on way in is narrow and not very deep, buyt we made it with our 4.5 foot draft at 1/2 tide, better to be closer to high tide, stay near green bouys.
Good service at the fuel dock. Moorings are kind of far away but they have a good launch service. The moorings are difficult to pick up, and not assigned, you just grab one of the ones with the little yellow balls, so that works. I was expecting the mooring ball itself to be yellow, and it isn’t, there is just a small yellow ball float attached to a white and blue mooring ball, so that was a little confusin, but it worked out fine. Nice little harbor, well protected, but has a river current.
Mooring was way way out in the harbor. No real landing area for dinghy or pets. Shallow water everywhere in the cove. If you draw anything be careful traversing at low tide.
FL Tripp & Sons was terrific and adaptable as we lengthened our stay several times to accommodate family issues.
Didn’t use any facilities other than a mooring, which we found incredibly hard to snag and pull up on the bow of our boat - it was really a struggle and took two of us. Also very difficult to drop it the next morning at low tide- we thought it would be easier to release, but again, a struggle. The pennants were too short and we’re vertical the entire time.
Beautiful views! Worth a visit! Tripp Moorings are one of our favorite spots. Don’t miss The Back Eddy! And F.L. Tripp Marina fixed our overheated generator which had been recently serviced by our home marina. They had left out the strainer! Thanks to F.L. Tripp we were up & running in a few hours! Thanks Arie & his team.
Terrific service. Launch is very responsive. Transient moorings are too far if you’re rowing and they are definitely not in the no wake zone.
Fantastic company. Staff and services are first rate. How can you beat a water taxi for $1 each way. Thumbs up for this Marina and quiet location. A true gem!!!
Protected mooring field. Nice location. Very helpful.
I'm giving a 4 rating because, while the reservation process was straight forward, the actual execution of picking up the mooring was a nightmare as others have said. I called on the radio as I was coming up the river. I got an immediate response from the launch driver who directed me to pick up any of their transient moorings that have a yellow ball attached to the mooring. With the current, maintaining position alongside the mooring and pulling up the very short mooring line was almost impossible. I barely made it on the third try but would have left if I hadn't. We did take on fuel and water at their dock which went smoothly. Being a Sunday afternoon there was a lot of traffic coming and going but it quieted down significantly after about 6 pm.
Got a mooring along the channel with scenic, natural surroundings. Friendly launch service was available for $1. Not much within walking distance; only restaurant was closed on a weekday. Dock staff could be better trained.
FL Tripp and Sons was very accommodating. Adolino was so helpful We met such wonderful and friendly boaters at the marina. Westport is such a nice place to spend a weekend.
Always interesting and beautiful on the Westport River. Had dinner with great friends. The bridal pennants on our mooring off of buoy 20 could have been longer so it was difficult to cleat them with the pull of the brisk current. Also, dingy dock space was sparse. Very attentive staff and all in a great stay. Thanks!
Beautiful spot.. first time here. Was easy to find the transient mooring with help of marina over Dockwa’s messaging feature. Things to know for first timers... 1. Fairly strong river current ., pay attention 2. When no wind a bit buggy 3. Twin/ bridle style mooring lines are short and dirty.. glad I had 2 Dyneema bridle extenders to cow hitch on the ball 4. Launch stopped at 8p on a Thursday night do we took the dingy to the Back Eddy restaurant... pork and clams were great
Mooring was very remote, actually just barely inside the harbor. Unlike most other marinas, launch service was not included. It was available at a per-trip cost. Usually I tip the launch operator about the same as I would have had to pay for the ride here, but the tip doubles the cost.
We had a very nice stay at Westport harbor on a FL Tripp Mooring ball. Our one comment is that the mooring pendant is ridiculously short especially given how the current rips through there. If the pendant was any shorter it would have been unusable for us.
I had a good experience dealing with friendly and helpful staff when I had a few questions regarding mooring availability. Prompt, helpful service when I called (on VHF CH9) to ask which mooring to pick up. VERY close to an amazing beach. Beautiful area. I will admit that since we visited while quarantining/distancing due to COVID-19 concerns, that we did NOT visit the nearby restaurant(s), and did NOT use the showers or other facilities ashore... so we didn't really get to completely experience the place like we might have during another time. We just wanted a mooring to tie up to, and a beach to retreat to where we could have some quiet space to relax, and that's exactly what we got. We navigated the chanel in VERY heavy fog... and a decent amount of current, but it was very well marked, and we had no problems. No complaints. I suppose if I wanted to be super-picky, I'd point out that our mooring pennants were too short, and I had to use a dock line to extend and reach to my bow cleats... but that's nothing worth deducting a star for. This would make a great stop-over en route between Block Island and the Cape Cod Canal area... also a short/easy sail to Cuttyhunk Island and other great spots to visit. We'll likely visit again!
Lovely area. Stayed isolated. Didn’t use any services. Been there many times before and enjoyed showers store and hospitality.
Very pleasant stay - arrival and departure directions were spot on. don't let the long passage in/out deter you. with the current launch service is a must and very personable drivers. looking forward to a return in the future.
A historic boatyard with nice people but pathetically poor bathroom and shower facilities.. Very close to impressive beaches and next door to the Westport Yacht Club but not close to much else.
Great facility - wonderful people! Had never been into Westport before - staff was encouraging - navigation straightforward. Amazing location - gorgeous beach a short dinghy ride. All shore services were all we needed: showers, ice, fuel, and a sweet ship’s store. Launch driver even offered to bring us to the local restaurant!
Picturesque spot and readily accessible moorings. Terrific marina personnel make you feel at home.
Very Clean facilities did have a request there was no communication as to their not being able to fulfill.beautiful beach area would definitely return
staff very helpfull, we get stock in a mooring line and they come immidately to help us.
