Safe Harbor Great Lakes embraces the unmistakable deep blue waters of Muskegon Lake and creates a summer haven on the water. As the only deep port on Lake Michigan, boating adventures are boundless. The inviting atmosphere complements amenities including a heated pool and gazebo, while numerous dining options are just a short walk away.
Great marina and staff! Everyone was extremely helpful and the facilities are very clean. Highly recommended
Nice marina, low voltage at docks…210 ….. hard to reach by phone and slow to verify reservation. Not much close by. Decent amenities.
They did not monitor vhf radio for our arrival. Do not answer phine or return messages left. No help with lines in the slip. Had issues with power even when we asked for help we had no help from staff. Only fellow boaters. Expensive.
Worst Marina experience ever. We arrived at approximately 2:30. We left our previous port early so we could get some time in at Muskegon. We started hailing the Marina on channel 9 numerous times, but got no reply. We called the Marina by phone several times but only got voicemail. After about 25 to 30 minutes we tried to approach the fuel dock. It was busy. Two young men were helping one boat with an attractive passenger fuel. Another fellow was working the forklist. We were set up for a starboard side tie at the fuel dock to see what the problem was. As approached I wanted to know why no one answered the radio or phone. They told me they were too busy. They sent us off to a slip. In the rush, my crew mistied a a fender line and the fender fell off and got eaten by a prop. As we pulled into the assigned slip, I was told not to get settled because someone put us in a too small slip. So now we ventured to our 3rd dockage. They caught our lines, I told them I got it from there. After we were settled in, I went to the office to get a key fob and ask some questions. No one was around. Not even on the fuel dock. The guy on the forklift finally came over and helped me out. Apparently the office person was missing. By now it was almost 5 on a Sunday. Over 2 hours to get docked and checked in. Anything outside the Marina was now closing soon. So I booked a Safe Harbor Marina knowing I was paying a premium (about 50% over my previous nights stay). I expected the service that comes with that though. I don't think any of the people I came in contact with were over 29. I think the employees did their best but were not equipped to deal with the load. One of them did say he was going to get me reimbursed for the fender, but I haven't heard from anyone yet. Management I feel is to blame here. Someone in charge needed to be there on the busiest day of the week. I don't think I'll be using Safe Harbor marinas anytime soon again. I've traveled about 4000 miles this year on my boat and this was the worst
The facilities were clean and the employees were very helpful and accommodating. We will stay here again soon. Thank you!
Marina did not answer call of arrival. Dock hands were not trained on how to receive new visitors. Marina was clean.
-Difficult to get response on radio on arrival -End of dock not marked per email instructions -Empty propane tanks on nearest grills -Weeds growing out of docks -Floating lake grass in corners near wall -Men’s bathroom door doesn’t close(North) -No paper towels in holders, wet roll on counter -Highest transient fee on L. Mich. -Highest pump out fee on L. Mich
Safe Harbor Great Lakes is a nice marina. The boater facilities are above average and the member lounge is open to transients, which is especially nice. The folks were accommodating. The staff was thin. But that's a problem across the Great Lakes this summer (2024). The marina, by no fault of its own, is at the back of a cove that is open to Muskegon Lake with no breakwater. So, boats especially along G dock rock constantly during the daytime hours. This is due to wake from boats that pass SHGL's cove entrance and to the ferry terminal, which is immediately behind G dock. Bottom line. While, this makes for a uniquely rocky experience, boats aren't at risk; as a boater I feel like the boat was adequately protected. The area of Muskegon immediately adjacent to SHGL is average to below. While there is a bike path behind the marina, there is also a 4 lane rural route and sparse few businesses, restaurants, shops and no grocery within a short walking distance. The area is mostly old urban housing. However, congrats to the Dockmaster who offered to drive us to a local big box store if we needed provisions. Downtown Muskegon is 2-3 miles away. One last positive, there are 2 donut stores and an absolutely amazing liquor/snack store, Ghezzi's, in close proximity. Ghezzi's has a small stock of just about any libation one could dream of and a pleasant staff to boot!
I loved staying at this marina. Everyone is chill and no one hassles you. Good location. Excellent showers. Could have stayed longer.
Very nice. Washrooms we’re clean and well-maintained.
Could have used access to bikes to travel around town
Spent three nights at the Safe Harbor Great Lakes and we're happy with our decision to stay at this marina. The dock master was friendly and accommodating as we had to switch docks to hook up for power. The marina has a great location next to the bike path, restaurants, and shops. The marina amenities were available to us as transient boaters - including the pool and grills. Bathrooms were clean. The regular slip holders were all friendly and the marina was also very dog friendly. All in all a great stay, and we'd stay again.
Wonderful marina! Great people, nice pool, good bathrooms, and a donut place nearby!
Couldn't book a reservation through Dockwa it wouldn't work. Called and left a massage no call back. We came in on a Sunday to find the marina closed. The security gard and his wife were very helpful and let us tie up to the gas dock until staff came in Monday morning after that it was a good stay.
Marina was pleasant, but the communication through Dockwa was poor. I sent a couple messages about our docking and how to get key fobs and never received any response. So we came in on a Sunday evening and had no access to the facilities or the gate. Additionally, there was another boat in our assigned slip number. Luckily there was an open slip next to us so we took that. And lastly, the $100 per night transient slip fee was twice what we paid at other marina’s coming up from New Buffalo and about what you pay in Chicago marinas.
Ok marina. No assistance when we came in. Not well marked from water entrance. Would not be first choice if coming back. Finger pier was full of bird poop which we cleaned off. Interesting area with activity. Would likely stay in area again.
The marina entrance was well-marked. We had a slip that looked out at Lake Muskegon. People --guests and employees--were all very friendly. Lake Express ferry runs out of the same harbor so we got bounced a bit but not bad. The Milwaukee Clipper museum is close by. Tour was great!
Great marina, super helpful staff, friendly people!
Very nice Marina. Some docks are far from the pool. The staff was great.
Clean. Staff is helpful. Slips are very wide, easy to get in and out. Great location. Nice amenities. Pool looked a little cloudy.
Convenient to all the Muskegon lake points of interest right off the bike trail, great staff. Clean and well managed.
Purchased a sailboat in Muskegon and stayed here for a week while we learned the new boat before sailing home. Awesome staff and super friendly folks on the dock. Cleanest bathrooms/showers I've seen in a marina - these guys rock! Also, the head of security was kind enough to drive us around to the ferry at 11pm to pick up friends that came in to sail home with us...we didn't ask him to, he offered! Would highly recommend and will definitely stay there again!
Taylor was awesome, she went above and beyond helping us find a slip that would accommodate our 20’ beam. The crew at the gas dock friendly and very helpful.
Scott and the rest of the crew are top notch. Bathrooms are super clean. Super Wi-Fi. Decks are clean. Laundry with two dryers and two washers work well. We staying there for 3 weeks ++ We will definitely go back. 6/2021
Never actually got to visit the marina. They did not respond to my Dockwa request, called them, they said get back to me next day, but never did. Was lucky to get place in different marina after all the time I wasted waiting for response.
It was a great stay, beautiful marina in Muskegon. The workers and boater were all so friendly. Will definitely be back!!
Absolutely Great place to stay! Staff is very helpful and accommodating. Also the service department at Great Lakes is top notch. Will definitely be back!
