Located in Alaska’s panhandle on Chichagof Island, the town of Hoonah was given the name Xunaa, literally translated to “protected from the North Wind”. Our 250 slip marina offers over 600ft of protected transient dockage. We also offer travel lifts, boat launch, hydraulic trailer, and dockside hoist. When staying in the harbor you’ll be able to provision, bird watch, and see some of the best whale watching in the country. We look forward to your visit.
Could use a bit of TLC but it was OK. Town was cute but missed out on the zip line!
Wonderful time! Thanks again to Harbormaster Andy!
Responsive harbormaster - in Waggoneer there is a main number, cell number and he monitors Dockwa. Although it says first come first served, we were able to reserve a couple of days in advance through Dockwa. In addition, Dockwa takes care of the payment. We had for boats in our group and were assigned hot-berthing (while other boats were away. There is also an outside linear dock and anchoring in the bay, as backup options. We also saw several boats anchoring at the head of Neke Bay - 8 miles to the south. We arrived on July 4th, which had a parade, community party in the park and fireworks. The main store for groceries is on a dock towards Cannery Point - Hoonah Trading Company. Fairly well stocked and very friendly. Frequent ferry and float plane service. Although concrete floats they are deteriorating. Power and water is good, although aging. A mix of cruising boats, fish boats, tour boats and somewhat dilapidated live-aboards. Cannery Point a major cruise ship stop is 2 miles walk along a paved walkway to the northeast. There is an Icy Point resort nearby, that we did not visit, which has dining and car rental.
Very easy in and out. Harbor master was very accommodating and very quick to respond to messages
Great to be able to book on Dockwa, fast response from the Harbor. Harbor is very protected. Some of the fingers need a little TLC. Power and water were good.
No problems. Always enjoy brief stays at Hoonah. Friendly people. Close to transportation to the Point. Saw some familiar boats. Nice to see increase of charters for sightseeing and hearing from cruise ship passengers how much they enjoyed their whale watching trip. Always something to see or do. Got to meet and talk to the wood carver this trip. Hoonah is the best place to hang out waiting for our entry into Glacier Bay.
Hoonah City Marina is conveniently located in the heart of the village. The staff are friendly and helpful. There are several restaurants within walking distance and the mile hike to Icy Strait and Cannery Cove is worth the visit.
It was great. Plenty of room. The Harbor Master was very helpful. They are not open on the weekends.
The Marina is a bit used but it fit our bill and I appreciated the ability to make a reservation.
I am trying to schedule a slip through Dockwa but there is no answer from the harbor.
This is a great little town and a well located Marina. Our particular dock (G-8) is in bad repair needing a topcoat to its crumbly concrete. The harbormaster was gone for the Fourth of July by the time we tied up so we could not check in. The laundry machines were in disrepair and the change maker is not working so we had to get quarters from businesses. Otherwise Marina was expected and satisfactory.
The Harbormaster was very attentive to our needs. Washing machines and drys were close by. Shower area was clean. Hoonah is a beautiful place to visit. We had a great time here. We highly recommend making slip reservations through Dockwa ahead of time.
