Oct 2023, Deer Harbor is a favorite of ours! Mark, Nicole, and all of the staff go out of their way to make each visit special. Their happy "can-do" attitude is always present. The store is well stocked, and always seems to have just what we need. Restrooms, showers and laundry facilities are clean, warm, and conveniently located. Deer Harbor Inn, Matthew's Smokehouse, and Island Pie (Pizza/Italian) are all within walking distance, and offer delicious dining options. The marina coffee and lunch grill is right on the dock, and it is very good as well. We look forward to our next visit to Deer Harbor.

Such an idyllic place hidden from the elements. The undertone of yesteryear with a quaint Harbor town being greeted by locals and the beauty of nature in the PNW. The marina staff are all very accommodating, pleasant and helpful. A must do while boating in the San Juan Islands.

Very nice place to visit. The pizza restaurant and the barbecue restaurant were both excellent and we did a hike along the shoreline you’re the restaurant that was quite enjoyable.

Lots of deck hands to help. Staff throughout the marina great. Bathrooms and showers clean and roomy. The elegant flowers lining the docks are beautiful and so well maintained - add a lot to the facility. Extra amenities including kayak rentals, whale watch tours, gift shop, provisions shop and limited cafe. Across street is Island Pie - flavorful options but service very slow. We stayed 3 nights and would’ve enjoyed additional dining options.

We love deer harbor marina! It’s always a fun place to stay. Handy store with ice cream. Great beach for tge kids to play at. Warm showers! The only sad part this time was the pool was closed for cleaning.

Until this year (2023) I had never been to the San Juan Islands. Now I have been 4 times between March and August. I stayed at Cap Sante in Anacortes and Friday Harbor the first time. The rest of my trips I've stayed at Deer Harbor. This is a very very quiet, very accommodating little marina. The people work extremely hard to keep this place clean, and keep everything working the way it should. The team of employees are always very welcoming towards us and our dogs. The bathrooms and showers are always nearly spotless as well, the store is well stocked too. I will definitely be back for more visits.

It’s a nice quiet marina

They got us in when we needed it. This is a small marina, so expect it to be tight. We're 58 feet, they charged us $175. Not cheap...

Facility is great. Our slip is a bit exposed and lumpy. Smokehouse down the road was open and always good food.

Everyone was great and very helpful. You made us feel welcome. I have been coming to Deer Harbor for 40 years, and there is a good reason why. The slip was perfect for my 20' boat. Went to Roche Harbor yesterday and I will never go back. What a bunch of rude, horribly managed dock staff. My 20' boat was not good enough for them. Great job, and hopefully we will see you soon.

Wonderful time always at Deer Harbor. Great service by marina staff everywhere, except at the fuel dock, where attendants where not very helpful.

LOVE this place! Marc and his crew provide outstanding service to all boaters. The crabbing is fantastic, and the pedestrian walk along the cliff is awesome. The marina has everything you need from a fast-food restaurant, little general store, laundry, shower and restroom facilities that are extremely clean.

Very east to book thru the Dockwa app. Quick response when we arrived on VHF78A and Mariana staff met up to help tie up. Harbor team was informative and helpful. Clean bathrooms and showers. Dock had lots of BBQ and picnic tables for folks to use. Good coffee and ice cream at the General store, Pizza place was very good. Easy to get ebikes dropped off and 9 miles to the main town.

We had a great one night stay at Deer Harbor. We went up to the small restaurant across the street and had the most delicious pizza ever! Very home made a very delicious! We were later arriving due to the weather only to find out the office closes at 5 and all dock people are gone by 6. So no help from anyone when we arrived but we did manage to call just before 6 to get our slip assignments. Would definitely go again

I have always loved Deer Harbor Marina, this year, 2023 it is better than ever! Great dock help. Such nice people to assist on the dock. The store is fun and the ice cream is not to be missed. Welcoming staff, clean bathrooms and showers

Beautiful location, friendly staff.

Deer Harbor is a lovely stop. It is well protected and there is good anchorage in addition to the docks and buoys. There is plenty of friendly assistance on the docks during the season. Do keep in mind this is a popular stop for families with busy children (probably because of the pool.)

Dock hands don’t seem to know how to assist a landing boat in docking. Dock hand just dropped line into the water when thrown to him. Slip assignments sometimes not suitable for the type of boat. Extremely over priced and rated.

We have an old classic 1937 40ft cruiser - single screw and requested starboard bow in if possible. They gave us the easiest spot in the marina to get into and placed us by another classic. Very impressed with dock masters consideration it was beyond expectations. Dock crew where excellent. Deer Harbour has a great relaxed vibe - great stop.

We love Marc and his crew! Katie in the Harbor office, Jeff and the mates of the dock team are fantastic. It is a great mellow place to relax and enjoy the San Juan islands.

We came over for a little stay-cation from San Juan Island and LOVED our visit at the marina. Well kept, GREAT showers and being able to walk up the dock to a latte in the morning was the best! Definitely will be back for more! Thank you so much!

Very quiet Marina. They charge a resort-style premium on everything here but lack some of the basics like decent wifi, limited laundry, and a restaurant. They tend to lean on neighboring pizza and bbq restaurants which have horrible service. The pool is shared with a timeshare next door and it’s a lot of fun. There are no bikes or places to roam around nearby. Taxi service is available if you want to go somewhere but there’s no shuttle. Very limited cellular service, so don’t expect to make any calls. They do have a float plane dock which tends to be used daily. Fuel prices are outrageous so plan to fill up elsewhere. Advice I have for management is enlarge your laundry / bathrooms, lower fuel prices, get better wifi, add some bikes or scooters, create a hiking map, and add more resort facilities like a restaurant or event center.

Nice, clean marina and super nice people. We love the smaller marinas with more of a small town feel and Deer Harbor did not disappoint.

Deer Harbor has a terrific location and provides a terrific service: all cruiser needs met - clean, sanitary, friendly, informative with pump out, fuel, shower, laundry even and pool in which to cool off.

Really nice staff, helpful with lines and getting in, well maintained marina. Smaller so felt remote. Beautiful views. There is a nice pizza place (and a BBQ place about 1/2 mile away) which is OK. However, if you have celiac disease, no place to eat so bring provisions.

A great marina with excellent staff. However, if your lively hood depends on the internet, then you may want to bring your own (e.g., Starlink). The marina's Wi-Fi is useless.

Would love to know our slip in advance. There was confusion when we arrived in strong winds. First had to pull up to break wall and then move to overnight slip which was a chore to move to. Also why do the dumpsters have to be locked? Why not have trash receptacles on the docks like roche harbor?

Been visiting Deer Harbor since childhood and by boat since 2000. This was best visit yet. Place looks great, fully staffed, friendly and very clean, yet still the same quaint Deer Harbor. Love it!

DockWa reservation was easy and Deer Harbor Marina staff were friendly, efficient and made our stay delightful. Thumbs up!

The staff is great and helpful! The marina is very well equipped and the spot is stunning! Don’t forget to buy your coins for the shower when you check-in. The office and the store close early.

Walked to Matthew’s BBQ. Marina store has great breakfast sandwiches. Dock help was great for tight moorage spot and fuel.

Marina is great but not the weather

One dock hand needs a bit more training in wind docking. Refused to cleat off the bow line twice so we could power the stern in. We went sideways, hit the dinghy on the other dock and finally landed there. Fortunately, there wasn’t another boat in slip or this would have been much worse! Otherwise very nice marina!

Electricity didn't work.

Everything was awesome

One of the reasons I chose Deer Harbor was the ice cream at the marina store. I am so disappointed that “no ice cream this year” (due to staffing shortage). Also our fellow boater came in at about 5:30 and no staff to answer 78A. Slips should be pre-assigned if you are’t going to be there to take the call.

Always a stop for us when we are in the San Juan's. Smaller and quieter than the other marina's close by and has a small town charm and feel. The staff is always there to help when you come into the marina and happy to answer any questions you may have. Great showers too! It's a 'must' stop for us!

This was our first visit to Deer Harbor and we loved it. It started with the dock hands to help get us into the slip, then continued with the very informative office staff. The shop/café at the top of the ramp was a nice surprise. My husband loves his morning mochas and this is the least he's had to walk to get one :-) There's a park not far from the marina for pups.

Deer Harbor is our favorite marina to stay in the Puget Sound. Not as busy as some of the other big names in the area, but always clean, friendly staff and a lot to offer. We look back to visiting soon!

We love Deer Harbor! It’s very quiet and beautiful. The staff are friendly and attentive. Just a couple of things -if there is anyway to let boaters know about when off season starts. We had planned to eat out one night, but we arrived on a Monday to find out both restaurants had changed the days they were open to Wednesday-Sunday. I also would suggest you change the hand soap in the women’s restroom. It smells like men’s aftershave and the smell stays on your hands. Not trying to be petty, just thinking about people with allergies to perfumes.

Great overall experience! The crew that help dock your vessel are always waiting and very friendly and helpful. This is not like Friday Harbor (no help). I would recommend and will be going back.

Dock crew and office staff were terrific. Facilities were in great shape. Store had the necessities and the lunch counter/ice cream/espresso options were good. Remember to get a garbage key during open hours or take advantage of free dock side pick-up in the morning. Pizza restaurant was a little slow, but good (not great). Nice staff. BBQ had a private event so we missed that. Beautiful location, and nice port. Even though it was full, it wasn’t “busy”.

It was our first time and we had a blast. The Marina was quiet, clean and friendly. The services were great and we plan to always return.

Great relaxed stay- extended from two nights to eight! Staff super friendly and helpful. Will definitely return later this summer and already planning visits next summer! Bringing the electric bikes next time to get around the island. Thanks again to the staff and the locals for making this a great start to our vacation.

We had a wonderful stay at Deer Harbor. Staff was on hand to help us dock, which is always appreciated. All the staff were friendly and accommodating. It's a smaller marina where the walk to showers and bathrooms is short. The store/grill makes some pretty good breakfast and lunch. There's a couple other places to get Bbq and pizza. Overall I really enjoyed my stay here. I'll be coming back if I'm able.

We have stayed at Deer Harbor many times. It is our favorite marina in there Islands ❤️ It's quiet, the area surrounding the marina is lovely with nice areas to walk. Facilities are spotless... Crew is always helpful. Just wonderful!

Older marina filled with charm and many extra benefits to delight all ages - including a pool and ice cream counter. Easy to understand why so many boaters return every year - we stayed July 3rd on our 50’ Tolly and even in dreary weather, the festivities included a great jazz band and family oriented laser show. Thanks Dear Harbor for all you do!

Deer Harbor is always a great little stop, the dockhands are great, harbormaster is helpful, and really there’s nothing to complain about. Would recommend.

Great staff and nice facilities. Need to make the laundry and showers be coin or card operated so you don't have to guess how many tokens you need before the store closes. We had a great stay and all the employees were awesome.

Wonderful customer support from all the Marina employees. 5 star Marina, except: 1) No cell phone service, even using WiFi calling; 2) No Shuttle Service. 3) Garbage cans are locked shut. Have never seen that at Marina before. Also, no recycle receptacle. If you have information explaining these items we would love to hear it. Thank you!

Fun, cozy marina. Very helpful staff. Met us at the dock to catch lines without us requesting it... wonderful. Nice facilities. The store has fun things, a few grocery items, ICE CREAM, and they also make some prepared breakfast and lunch items. They don't open until 9am though when most of the world has already had breakfast. Wish they opened at 7am instead. Nice restrooms and showers. You still have to pay for the showers even if you're a guest at the marina though. We very much wanted to eat at Island Pie, the pizza place, but when we got there on a Tuesday afternoon we were told that they are closed on Tuesdays. Ugh. Overall a very nice experience and we'll be back to Deer Harbor again.

We love Deer Harbor Marina, it is a must stay when cruising the San Juan's. The entire team is so wonderful. We always look forward to staying with them. See you next summer, or hopefully sooner.

Deer Harbor continues to be our favorite getaway location, especially on Labor Day Weekend. Dock staff are always helpful, showers are clean, the dock store is well stocked…and the scenery...always beautiful and restful. Requested a bow in starboard tie with the reservation and that is what they gave us. The addition of a new yacht club dock provides breakwater protection for the guest floats. Walked up to the Smokehouse Restaurant this time for dinner. Had their great barbecued baby back ribs for $22! What a deal!

Friendly, efficient staff. Marina staff provided professional dock assist, and quickly provided a needed power cord extension. The store staff was courteous while keeping COVID protocols. Check in was friendly and efficient. All around the marina and surrounding businesses exude a warm feeling, making our visit very relaxing.

The stay was quiet, very quiet. Until Kenmore Air stopped in from time to time. Enjoyed the stay in this sleepy marina. We will be back!!

Lovely little marina and town, very nice and accommodating staff. Tip: if you need internet bring a T-Mobile phone or hotspot. Other carrier seem to lack.

Deer harbor never disappoints. Great dock crew. The little store at the top of the ramp is stocked with a few essentials and makes a decent burger and fries. Clean restrooms.

It wasn’t great. The advance email did not advise that I needed to call in before 5 to get a slip assignment. When we arrived, no one was there to advise us. The cellular service is horrible but I was finally able to reach the harbor master who was surprised that no one sent us a text message. He was the one positive - very helpful and apologetic. He got us positioned by the gas dock which was ok since we were just overnighting. Free WiFi was available but the password was not provided. Service at Island Pie was not great as the staff was much more interested in cleaning up to go home. My wife’s beet salad was missing the pecans and goat cheese that the menu said it would have. All in all, it did what it needed to do…barely. I doubt I’ll be back.

Very disappointed with how everything was handled. I as well as two other boats scheduled our stay for Aug 27-29th and let them as well as Dockwa know that we're traveling together. I received a call on the 25th asking where I was. They also said that they don't see the other two boats on the schedule that I was traveling with. I don't know where the error happened but they had me for the 25-27, our other boat for the 27-29th and the third boat for Aug 27-29th! When I explained all of this, the person at Deer Harbor said he can't do anything about it and was not willing to even try as the harbormaster was out and he didn't know when he'd be back or even what day. He also callously mentioned that he'd be charging me for the slip anyway as that was their policy. We usually regard Deer Harbor as one of our favorite stops on our yearly cruise but was feeling let down by this. When trying to decide whether to use the one slip for the date planned and anchor the other two boats in the bay, we were told that the pool needed to be reserved and could only have a 45 min period but it would have needed to be reserved weeks in advance and we wouldn't have a chance so we decided to stay at a much more welcoming marina for those two days. Not sure if we'll consider trying for next year at Deer at this point.

Always enjoy our time at Deer Harbor. They were so pleasant and patient with our plan changes and the dock staff is always vey friendly and helpful.

Only complaint was the hours the dock store was open. This is especially a problem to acquire tokens for the showers and/or showers. 9am to 7pm would seem more reasonable for a resort marina

We had a pleasant weekend at Deer Harbor. The staff was there to help us dock and accommodated moving slips so we could have several boats in our party together.

Deer Harbor is a family friendly marina and resort with a few issues. There is no cell phone coverage (and I mean NONE) and the internet is terrible. If you are looking to stream movies for your children, this is not the marina to come to. The pool is nice but due to the guidelines set it is a real struggle to get any pool time. The store/coffee shop is understaffed so be prepared for long waits for your morning coffee. The staff is helpful and friendly. The docks are nice and the beach is close by for walk and play. Jones Island is a short dingy ride away where one can take advantage of the great hikes with spectacular views.

Really great marina and staff. Despite reduced staffing and COViD,everyone was awesome and marina was neat clean, and plenty of food and grocery items made the stay in our slip a breeze. Dock hands and fuel dock kids were great as well. Well done Deer Harbor.

We were very happy with the amount of dock personnel to help boaters enter andoor their boats. The store is stocked very well being its small size. The staff follows CDC guidelines. Everyone is friendly and making you feel like you should/want to return. We look forward to our next stay.

We just had a wonderful stay at Deer Harbor Marina on Orcas Island. Coming in from a marine state park, it was wonderful to have all the amenities and friendly faces at the Marina. From the friendly dock hands who helped us into our slip to the gift shop and office workers we were treated so well ! We will definitely recommend the Marina to our boating friends in the Squalicum yacht club of Bellingham and are going to write an article for our next newsletter. Also the recommendations for Island Pie Pizza and Matthew s smokehouse Restaurant were spot on. We had great meals at each place in walking distance to the Marina, within one mile. Also the showers,ice cream and dock store with ICE and cold drinks were wonderful. Thanks for a beautiful holiday.

They were courteous and helped at the dock with masks on (2020). Store, grill and pizza were all fab. Still a favorite spot. Update: still amazing, polite and pizza is so good but worth the price.

Nice marina, not as polished as years back. The marina staff was for the most part friendly. When you pre tip the dock attendant 20.00 at the fuel dock, one would think maybe he’d help hold the fuel hose while I was dragging it across the cockpit, or real it back up at the pump, but no, which canceled his after filling tip. I think finding knowledgeable employees might be an issue on Orcas, as most other communities.

Lovely place…took a taxi to go 3 miles to Turtleback Mountain $30. Marina is nice and the deck hands extremely polite and helpful. The WiFi was too far away too connect and our AT&T service didn’t work here but T-mobile did. The BBQ restaurant up the road wasn’t open on Thursday and the pie place doesn’t open until 4:00 today. We’ll have to time our visit better next time.

The marina is well managed and the food at the shack at the top of the dock is very good. The dock hands are exceptional! There were nasty winds causing a major boat fiasco, and they handled the problem with professionalism and persistance.

I have stayed in this marina for many years in my once 25, now 29 Searay with the family - what a lovely spot! Very protected from weather, peaceful unpretentious vibe, friendly boat neighbors. They have a nicely stocked store with the best egg and cheese croissants for breakfast, nice shower area and a pool you can access on hot summer days . There’s a relatively new cider and pizza place across the road, and an Inn on top of the hill for dinner with a killer view of the area. It’s quiet most evenings , so if you’re looking for evening rowdiness, this isn’t your spot. Another week in Paradise last week (July 2021) What a wonderful place.

Friendly and helpful staff. Decent amenities. Not a ton to do so wouldn't plan to stay more than a day or so. Small store and good pizza place nearby. The pool said heated but was very cold, even for kids. $2.20/ft is expensive for what they offer.

Deer Harbor Marina is small and has an excellent staff! It can get windy because of the southern exposure. The small grocery also serves hot items, and a pizza restaurant is across the street for the evenings. We will be back!

This is our favorite marina in the San Juan Islands. The location alone is stunning, but when you add in the fantastic dock hands, the store, grill , and ice cream, delicious pizza right across the street, clean shower facilities, and the 4th of July decorations, it makes for a wonderful visit!

We love staying at Deer Harbor!! Staff is friendly and helpful. Fellow boaters are respectful and friendly also. Scenery is amazing! Just wish the fireworks were on the 4th. But otherwise perfect.

Our favorite marina in the San Juans. Beautiful, convenient, charming and quiet. We go every fourth of July. The marina staff is attentive, helpful and friendly. Great harbor and open water for kayaking or taking the dinghy out. A couple great casual restaurants close by. The dock store has an awesome grill and things to replenish stores. Most of all, it’s just chill. Deer Harbor is the marina we like to go to disconnect and relax and be around like folks.

We stayed at Deer Harbor on 6/26/2021 in our 27 foot sailboat. We found the marina slips to be spacious and well kept. It was well protected and quiet. Every employee we had an encounter with was friendly and helpful. The bathrooms were clean and roomy. We didn't visit the pizza place because we couldn't take our dogs onto the dining deck and we didn't want to leave them on the boat alone, but I heard that the pizza there was very good. We will definitely stay again.

The docks are wider then is typical so it’s possible to sit and watch the day go by. The location is gorgeous and the walk to the south along the road to the path is great in any weather

Great little Marina. Very clean bathrooms and showers. Attentive staff always there to help with lines as you dock. Wide berths, excellent docks, good little store and a pizza place across the road. Not a lot else to do near the Marina, but it's easy to reserve a rental car and travel around Orcas.

I would have given it 5 stars but even though there were open slips we were put between 2 large boats making it hard to manouver getting in there as we are only a 22 ft boat.

Deer Harbor is a nice marina. It is clean without being fancy. The people are friendly. There is a little store that has most critical things you may need. There is an on-site pizza restaurant with great food. It was a good place to spend a couple nights while shrimping. We’ll be back.

Easy booking through Dockwa. Called when in sight, prompt response and easy instructions. Nice guy caught our lines, welcomed us, and gave us a very cordial orientation. First Class marina!!!!!

The marina staff were friendly and helpful. Deer Harbor marina is charming, with clean bathrooms and showers, laundry facilities, food, store, and boat tours within steps. A wonderful jumping off point to exploring other islands as well.

Dock staff met us pulling in and helped with the lines. Good docks. Store had the basics but not much more. Short hours for store.

Friendly dock staff and marina office folks. Easy to make reservation. Assignment made after hailing. Blowing 13 knots so line handlers were around to assist if needed. COVID made local restaurant options limited. Easy 1/2 mile walk to Deer Harbor Inn with nice outdoor patio. Marina facilities (Showers etc) open but didn’t feel up to cleanliness standards found other marinas on this trip. Water limited. No boat rinse and strongly suggested not to fill onboard fresh water tanks. However good option if linking up with fly-in family or friends with timeshare resort cabins above marina and seaplane service linking to Seattle. Post COVID access to resort pool BBQ area etc for marina guests will be nice addition.

Will definitely be staying again. All the right amenities, and maintained beautifully during COVID. Will bring the family next time!

First time to Deer Harbor Marina and it was outstanding! Extremely helpful and friendly staff that went out of their way to assist to make our visit memorial. Great facilities...clean, well maintained and stocked. Easy access to fuel and pump out point. Store and snack bar were great! Highly recommend a stopover. We will return in future San Juan Island cruises!👍😀

We love this marina! Very friendly and helpful staff, right on the dock when we arrived if we needed help. Store has Ice and enough provisions, great pizza and sandwiches to order up. Beautiful setting, nice hiking nearby and kayaking up or around the bay with lots of birds.

Deer Harbor Marina is a treat. The showers and bathrooms are clean. Showers require purchase of a token. There is a small marina store on the dock with a pizza joint across the street. What we like most though is the laid back vibe of the place.

Wonderful place to stay for a few nights. Quite, clean and beautiful! We’ll definitely be back!

Very helpful and courteous dock hands. WiFi was non existent, even using theirs. Ice was useless as it had holes in center of cube, no block ice.
