Lowcountry charm meets convenience and southern hospitality at Safe Harbor Skull Creek. Amid the sprawling oaks and southern breezes of Hilton Head, the marina is host to a complete lineup of modern amenities, and the area’s sought-after beaches, resorts, golf courses, and shopping are within reach. With ideal access to the open ocean, the port is idyllic for sailors and anglers alike.
Just perfect. Dockmaster was very kind and helpfull.
Awesome staff. Convenient and secure location. Will definitely be back!
Staff very helpful, courteous and skilled managing the docks.
Nice place with excellent staff. Just one aggressive acting dog to pass otw to the showers, but he would not jump off his boat. Showers are nice with great pressure!
Very nice marina and friendly staff in a great location. Skye did a great job tying us up in a strong current and gave us lots of great info about the area.
great staff, nice facility! Convienient stop off the ICW!
This was our second time here and I can’t say enough nice things about the staff. Wonderful service! I highly recommend this marina.
Well run Marina with good docks and power. Very helpful crew.
45' sail catamaran; 25' beam; 5' draft; 70' air clearance; one husband, one wife, one young child, and two small dogs. We were on our way to Chesapeake Bay from Fort Lauderdale, when Tropical Storm Debby (Aug 2024) gave us chase. Rather than risk getting caught out somewhere around Cape Hatteras, we decided to tuck in at Hilton Head at the last minute and wait out the storm. Because of the uncertainty of the ever-changing forecasts, we did not know how long we would be there, and how bad the storm would be. Also, Hurricane Ernesto was forming in the Caribbean, and we had no idea, whether we would have to sit that out, too, or if it were going to spin off toward Bermuda. TS Debby arrived a day later and then squatted immediately offshore for THREE days. Everyone at Skull Creek was helpful and friendly, and they accommodated our ever-changing schedule professionally and courteously. The marina is missing rubber bumpers on some of its floating docks—easily dealt with, if one carries spare fenders—but the cleats are oversize and well spaced. It is an easy bicycle ride to grocery stores and a Walmart. To get to other attractions on the island, you probably will want to hire a taxi or rent a car. The current is strong at the marina for a few hours between tides, and the approach from the ocean against an outgoing tide can be tedious. If it is possible to time your approach to ride an incoming tide up the channel and arrive at the marina during slack, then definitely do it.
Dates: July 15 - 18, 2024 LOA: 48' Beam: 15' Draft: 3'4" Skull Creek has nice floating docks and is easy to get to, being right on the ICW. Good depth on approach and in the slips. The staff and dock hands were excellent. This one is a perfect destination for golfers. They have laundry and showers on site. Walmart delivers here for groceries. Uber is available if you want to venture out to restaurants.
Very nice folks. Clean bathrooms. Plenty of space and parking too
The Marina was good. There is not a store, food etc. so plan your trip accordingly. Tyler was awesome upon arrival and we felt our boat was safe during the overnight hours.
The dockhands were great in helping us as we approached in the current. And Mike and Marc were very helpful in offering suggestions when we departed. The docks and pedestals were in very good condition. It was not a problem getting a taxi/uber in to town.
Well-maintained docks and facilities. Easy approach from ICW, plenty of dock carts, convenient auto parking. Bath and laundry facilities were clean and well maintained. Staff very helpful and professional. Only problem which cannot be helped is the long walk to shore for auto or dog walk. We always come here on our ICW passages.
Great staff, good outer face dock. Easy in from outside.
One of our favorite marinas. The staff are amazing and made us feel very welcome. They always had a treat ready for Timmy, our dog. We loved that they have a filtered water machine near the office to save on plastic bottle use. They also have two push bikes and two electric bikes to help you explore the bike friendly neighborhood. We loved walking the area too. Uber or a rental car would help you make the most of exploring Hilton Head Island.
Mike - dockmaster was excellent
Fantastic stay at Safe Harbor Skull Creek. Great staff and very accommodating. I highly recommend it!
Great marina with great staff.
Great Marina, staff is wonderful!
Courteous staff and nice, modern dock. Also decent protection from the currents compared to others in the region. Look forward to the power pedestals being able to provide 2x single-phase 100 or 3-phase power on a future visit.
Great marina with a friendly staff.
Dockhand helping us tie up with a stern in slip was fantastic. Beautiful docks all gated. The restaurant, Skull Creek Boathouse, has a great bar and food was excellent. However, it was a 20-25 minute walk to get there, we took an Uber back. We had a great one night stay.
Employees where very helpful
Relaxing stop. We didn't leave the marina so we can't share about any experiences. The staff was incredibly nice. Amanda is wonderful.
Great facilities and crew!
Awesome marina, with THE BEST staff!!
Nice marina, dock staff were great.
Great service and hospitality, best SH !! Thank
We had a great stay at Skull Creek. We stayed 4 nights. Got fuel and a pump out. Marina staff were very helpful. Only thing I would recommend is getting women’s bathroom door fixed so that it auto closes when people exit. The bathroom/showers are not within the gated marina. The bathroom door does have a keypad to enter but door needs to be pulled shut when someone exits. It is never pulled shut by the previous person. It is a little creepy going in at night when the door is left ajar. You feel like you need to check the stall and behind the shower curtain to ensure no one is lurking in there.
Mike watched our AIS progress and anticipated our arrival and needs. We had stopped at a nearby dock to eat at a local restaurant and he called to be sure we were okay. Later he met us as we approached and assisted with dock lines. Very friendly and professional.
One of Safe Harbor's best marinas. We have stayed here multiple times and we always look forward to returning. James and Amanda are very helpful and kind. Amanda helped us tie up, fuel up and get settled in for our stay. Current can be strong but runs parallel to the face docks.
We loved staying at the Safe Harbor Skull Creek on our way north this spring. Amanda did a great job communicating with us via email, phone and VHF as we planned our trip and as we arrived at the marina. She was very professional in helping us tie up too. We hope to be back again soon!
Beautiful location and friendly, helpful staff.
Outstanding staff. Super helpful. Easy access.
Very helpful staff. Amanda was great helping us into the slip. Calm and well protected.
Over night stop meet well and nice location
SH Skull Creek Marina experience and staff were beyond expectations. The before, during, and after communication was outstanding. Immediate assistance was provided any time we had questions. Finally, Mark personally delivered an important package sent there to our next location, about an hour away! I highly recommend this marina and their outstanding staff
We had a rest filled stay at Skull Creek Marina. A quiet place, perhaps because of time of yr? Being tied up to a floating dock was comfortable as we experienced big tides there. Hot showers are always a wonderful welcome and this proved true here also. As was a clean laundry room to get a load of wash done. Dock hands were helpful and accommodating when we arrived and fueled up as well as being able to accommodate us when we requested an addition 2 nights due to incoming weather. The people we met there were friendly, including meeting a Marine Service engineer by the name of Mad Max. He is a wealth of information that comes from a lifetime of experience. With no restaurant on site, we were able to get a ride to an Irish Pub a bit of a drive from the Marina called “Kelly’s Tavern”. Food was delicious and was a comfortable place to sit and gab for however long you wanted. Would definitely return to this Marina in the future. Thank you all :)
Friendly helpful staff, nice facilities, would stop here again
Spectacular service from Mike and Amanda! Viva Safe Harbor!!
Amanda was wonderfully polite and friendly!
We love being a member of Safe Harbor Marinas! Skull Creek found us a spot to hide from the weather and make a couple of repairs. The staff was kind and accommodating. Easy to get in and out off. We used the northern passage. Lovely park and areas to walk around. Pet friendly too. Very nice marina, I would highly recommend.
Pricey if you are not a member, but the facilities are great and the staff very helpful.
Great communication in preparation for our arrival. Assistance docking was appreciated and we were FWE in about 5 minutes. Welcome package was appreciated as it was our first visit to Hilton Head. While many folks may not appreciate the remoteness of the marina, we enjoyed the quiet. Easy Uber to nearby restaurants and the rest of the island.
Easy in and out, if you time the currents correctly. Great accommodating staff. I needed to come in early and they made it happen. Great team!
Good crew easy access
Excellent as always. Very attentive staff make the experience great.
Wonderful time, great staff!
Great docks and excellent staff
Great docks, well sheltered, very competent staff, Amanda was friendly and helpful. I’ll be back.
Very nice stay. Amanda and the crew were helpful assisting with fuel and getting into our slip. Excellent communication during the reservation and arrival process.
Great marina and staff. Great restaurants within walking distance.
Very helpful dockmaster, as I arrived late he had supplied with my berthing instructions before hand. Marina seemed very clean, can't comment on other aspects as didn't leave the boat.
So happy they were able to accommodate us on such short notice.
Great staff to help fuel and dock. Restaurant closed, but good food just a short Uber ride away.
The marina is very clean and it has nice docks. The staff is great and goes out of their way to accommodate you. It is off the beaten path and a rental car is needed or you have to UBER. A loaner car would make Safe Harbor Skull Creek 5 stars! Thank you for the stay.
Female dockhand was efficient, knowledgeable and so pleasant. Sorry I don’t recall her name.
Great place to rest and service boat. Harbormaster is truly a professional.
Great staff , very helpful.
Nice marina, easy to access. The staff was really nice and friendly. We were only there for a night, so stayed on the end of the T but it was calm and peaceful. There isn’t a lot of services or restaurants nearby but everyone around was really friendly and it was a nice neighborhood to walk around.
Great 3 night stay here at Skull Creek Safe Harbor. New concrete floating docks. Clean facilities and accommodating staff. Our E-Bikes got us around the island with no problems. Bike friendly Island. We will be back.
Great stay. Nice marina and Tyler was exceptional in all aspects. We hope to return again soon!
Nice Marina. The guys at the dock and front office were very friendly and very accomodating.
Amazing place all around. The deck hands were amazing.
Friendly and helpful.
It was a very nice marina. Although there was no restaurants near by without an expensive Uber ride. It is located in a gated community and we were hassled everytime we came back through to get to the marina. Even though we were registered as guest. The wakes from the local boaters were bad. It is a no wake zone, no one cared. The marina staff was excellent.
Very nice facility and excellent staff
New floating docks with solid wood and tie downs. Staff was always available for anything we needed. We don't frequent marinas, but have been to several. This is the top marina we've been to so far up and down the east coast and in the Bahamas.
Great stay for 3 days to wait out weather. Very friendly staff and very nice floating docks. We will stay again next time we come through Hilton Head.
GREAT STAFF!!! Thank you!
Passing boats do not respect marina no wake zone which isn't marked.
Nice marina. Quiet. Great Staff! Extremely helpful. This was our first time visiting and we will definitely come back.
Pulled in for a night to wait out bad weather. Staff was great. Good floating docks. Well protected. Some wake movement from traffic. They did not respond when hailed on VHF multiple times.
Recently bought a 47 Atlantic in Charleston SC and drive it down the ICW to Fort Myers Fla . Stopped at many Marinas along the way . Pulled up at Skull Creek the day before Easter and stayed two days . Met Duncan who could not have been more professional and helpful . Don’t know what you pay him but it couldn’t be enough. Recommend Skull Creek and Duncan to anyone traveling through Hilton Head
Great marina and fantastic restaurants just a short Uber ride away. Dock Master was extremely helpful.
It’s always a pleasant stay. Helpful staff and strong currents make for an interesting arrival and departure!!!
Positives : The Dockhand met us at the T dock to help us tie up and was very informative. The facility is in good clean condition with clean rest rooms. The transient dock is a T-dock which is easy in and out. Over all a nice marina. The negatives: T dock is in an area that is exposed to wakes. It is not in a No Wake posted area. We arrived on a Sunday and there was a lot of boating activity. We rocked and rolled at arrival late afternoon and into the night. Even late evening as a few sport fish passed leaving large wakes. The marina is in a gated community. Very nice but not close to anything. No transportation or bikes provided by the marina. If you want to go anywhere it requires Uber. We could have used the dingy to go to a restaurant on the water about two miles away. We planned a two day stay at Skull Creek to spend time on Hilton Head. After a night of rocking and rolling in a marina we decided to leave early and anchor instead. I spoke with the Harbor master about our experience. He offered to give us an inside slip where it would be calmer or refund us for the day we did not use. He was understanding to our experience. We chose to leave. If you have scheduled transportation and don't mind a little rocking and rolling while tied in a Marina this is a 5 star marina. We don't mind rocking and rolling from weather at a marina but wakes we do. We anchor for free and except wakes!
Everything about the facility was great, however there needs to be a no wake zone for the marina as we have encountered everywhere else on the ICW. Lots of bouncing about from the wakes of passing boats. Can’t imagine what it would be like in the busy season. A very easy fix to get 5 stars from me.
Delivering yachts south and north along the East Coast, it is always comforting to know where to find consistently great service, fuel, dockage, and friendly faces. The staff is always great in welcoming us in, providing convenient transient dockage, setting us up with fuel, water, and electric, and providing information for my clients. Ben Austin and his crew have always provided the highest level of service to me and my clients, all of whom have always commented positively of the visit to Skull Creek and Hilton Head Island. Most recently (Jan 2023) my clients were very pleased with the hot showers and clean rest rooms after a very cold delivery south from Beaufort NC! Very welcome! Skull Creek standardly provides the highest level of service, one that you can count on when your travels bring you to Hilton Head.
I highly recommend Safe Harbor Skull Creek. We have had a slip there since 2020 and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff was very helpful in providing information and answering questions before we committed to getting a slip there and the friendly, high level of service has been continuously provided through the years. Whether it is just answering a question or getting fuel, the team has been a pleasure to deal with. The property, including the restrooms has always been clean and well maintained. A big thanks to Ben who we have dealt with the most!
Good stay. Very friendly and helpful dock hands. Very disappointed that the restaurant has closed, and the closest option is 1.5 miles away. No loaner carts, or bikes. This may affect our future decision to stay. We will check on our next trip through to see if things have changed.
Super friendly Staff. Convenient for Southbound Travelers. A new addition to our runs south. Great restaurant nearby. Highly recommend! Capt Chris
This was our 2nd stay at Safe Harbor Skull Creek, and enjoyed it very much. Dockmaster (Ben) and staff are GREAT! Thank you for a great stay and we will be back.\nBistari
The marina was very nice and clean, but we where there 3 nights and the potable water at our dock and nearly dock was broken . Our thank was empty. So it was not fonctionnal enought for us. They could have offer us à crédit.
Staff was amazing and helpful. Sadly the electric wasn’t sufficient for our 100amp single phase. Splitter was sufficient either. \nThey credited us the charge for electric. No problem. Sunsets were stunning
After telling James we would there after closing, he emailed all the essential info a transient needs (gate codes, etc). Slip was next to dock house/bathrooms/showers. And showers were among the nicest we’ve used. Slip has very large cleats and wide dock surfaces. \nOnly small issue was the restaurant at the Marina was closed for a private party. \nOtherwise, I highly recommend staying here when on the ICW.
The staff were really great. Tyler and Ben specifically were just absolutely wonderful. Ben, the dock master didn't hesitate to let us arrive a little early to come during slack tide and Tyler is a great dock hand with a great attitude. The rest of the stay was a bit disappointing and not on par with their rates. There is an extensive amount of construction going on, docks falling apart, no water at the slip, power outage, wifi out/extremely slow during the week we were there. Cell service is spotty up there so we had spells without wifi where we couldn't communicate with our family who were staying on the beach side of town. A large portion of the boats docked here look as if they have been there a while and are at the end of their lives. The location is beautiful but pretty far from most places if you don't have a car. This was the only marina on the island that had a slip available but it was apparent why they had the open slips. In the future, this could be a great place to stay but it just isn't there yet. The restaurant on site is nice and has a great coffee bar and "convenient store." There is also a pool that is a mile away, open to marina guests after getting a day pass. Facilities are minimal and ok. No captains lounge. Fuel dock is in a great spot for easy access but we didn't need any. I wouldn't stay here again and couldn't really recommend this place in it's current state and cost but they are definitely working hard to improve the place.
Ben and his staff are equal to the best marina crew on the planet, consistently helpful, attending to details, making people feel comfortable about being here.
Ben (Dockmaster), Tucker, Tyler and Hunter were all professional and extremely helpful in getting us squared away with diesel and a great outside T berth
We had an awesome stay here. The staff were super helpful. Nice facilities. We especially enjoyed access to the neighborhood pool. We will be back!
While transiting Hilton Head on our way to Savannah from Charleston, we requested assistance with temporary dockage to wait out storms that were passing through the area. Ben answered our radio call and allowed us to tie up and wait it out. He was very cordial and offered the use of the facilities as needed. It was comforting to my passengers and I to get on terra forms after a battle in Port Royal Sound. Thank you Ben, and kudos Safe Harbor Skull Creek!
Skull Creek was a great facility with a professional staff we had to leave the boat for a week and it was in great hands
We lost an engine 35 miles SE HHI. Once in cell phone range we contacted Safe Harbor Skull Creek for dockage letting them know ETA 5:30-6:00. Not a problem. James met us on the dock to assist with lines. We greatly appreciate the after hours courtesy extended to us. Thank you for being there for us.
Excellent management (Thank you, Ben). Good location. Service level is great. Good value
Very helpful staff. Easy overnight stay on the ICW.
This is a very nice peaceful marina albeit a bit remote from provisioning options. Great dock staff and tidy new floating docks. Restaurant on site (did not go) and very nice neighborhood for walking. Several golf courses within an easy bike ride. Have stayed here before and will again.
Awesome place with great dock staff. Very helpful. Great Restaurant onsite
We love stopping here when traveling to and from the Florida Keys. We promise ourselves in October we will stay here at least a week to explore all the sites & restaurants The staff here is incredible! Great Team! Clean facility and always a warm welcome.
Excellent service from the staff and a nice quaint marina. Fuel price was reasonable. The surrounding neighborhood was beautiful and fun to explore on our bikes. We will be back!
James and everyone else at Skull Creek Marina were great. Came through on a delivery with two vessels during the busiest time of the year, Heritage Golf Tournament and they were more than accommodating for us both. Easy in and out off the ICW and we’ll kept docks.
Very nice marina with on site restaurant. The dockmaster was very helpful and when we had to change plans due to weather, the marina was very flexible. We will definitely stay there again.
Amazing!! Had a great stay. Clean and friendly people ....
I’d live here if I could. Couldn’t be a nicer group so friendly and helpful
A really nice place. The restaurant was great and the service was terrific.
Great location and excellent staff. Dock is exposed to boat wake.
The staff and facilities at Skull Creek we’re excellent! Went above and beyond for our needs for the weekend. We highly recommend and definitely will be using them for future dock services.
Ben Austin is a great guy. Mark and David too. Can’t express In words how happy we are. Ten stars!
Great stay. Trailered our 24' Chaparral from Smith Mtn Lake VA to Hilton Head for a two week stay & rented a transient slip at Skull Creek Marina. Nice folks, good rates, excellent facilities and close to where we were staying with family on the island. Only down-side is having to find a local self storage option to keep the boat trailer for a couple weeks... but that worked out. Would definitely go there again.
The dock master, Ben, met us at the slip and was masterful at securing what was not a typical “landing” but all ended well due to Ben’s efforts. Everything was well kept and staff very polite. It was an excellent experience and will be visiting again soon. Thank you - We have visited multiple times since, including last weekend and it was a great visit ! Still highly recommend!
The marina and staff are stellar and quite friendly. A shout out to Ben, the dock master. He’s an example of what all dock-masters could be. Our only issue was the rolling we experienced while pretty far in on the face dock. I’d say it was our boat but ALL of them rocked quite a bit unless you are on the inside face dock next to land. However, this seems to be taken up with long term ? We would stay here again but the powers that be might want to look into wave attenuation, enforcement of a slow speed zone, etc. Thank you Ben! You made it worthwhile! April
Easy docking with very nice people that even helped us with pumps to blow up rafts. No shore power issues. Fuel was easy to get to. Nice restaurants close by. Close to Beaufort as well.
Just Great. We love please . Looking forward to stay with them again.
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Safe Harbour Skull Creek Marina in Hilton Head, so much so that we planned to stay for a week and ended up staying for 5 weeks! Ben and his team made us feel very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. The facilities are great with a laundry on site and good WiFi. We will definitely be back and make Skull Creek a regular winter destination. Thank you for making our stay so pleasant. Dean & Alka Bromiley
Always have been more than pleased with our stops at Skull Creek over the years. Only issue this year was the lack of golf carts. In the past they had been available for boat owner use. Apparently they have been disallowed since Covid. Very long walk from parking lot up ramp to docks. However, staff exceptionally accommodating &, when called, would pick you up at bottom of ramp.
Second visit to Skull Creek and it only getting better. Dockmaster Ben and manager Mark do a great job. The current can be strong but they are there to help you get in for fuel or your berth.
Super friendly and very accommodating for a late arrival and early am departure. We rented bikes from Mike’s bikes, and they delivered to the Marina. 3 excellent restaurants a short bike ride or long walk away. We’ll be back again.
Very clean and great facilities (would be nice to have more than one washer/dryer). Staff very helpful, especially when coming in with the tricky currents and winds they were a tremendous help. Lovely area for taking the dog for a walk.
Great stop. The staff was super friendly, easy in and out, and the location is nice and quiet. It is a bit far if you’re trying to get elsewhere on the island, but worth a stop.
Staff was amazing. Friendly and catered to our every need.
Friendly helpful dockhands, nice docks. We enjoyed our stay.
I really appreciated the friendly, professional marina staff. Very easy to work with, responsive to requests, regularly checking on conditions of docks and boats in the marina. The facilities are clean and very secure.
Great, clean marina, very convenient as it is right next to ICW. Super clean bathrooms and friendly (especially John) staff. Even marina tenants are very friendly giving you local advice, warnings, etc. You do have to watch out for strong currents and tides. Will stay there again.
They do a great job at Skull Creek. Clean facility with great staff.
Great brand new floating docks, all hardware an equipment in excellent shape. The best about this marina is the team running it. They go out of the way to make sure that the guest's needs are met. I was arriving with one engine disabled and Benjamin, the docmaster, proactively contacted me with all the tide and current info and waited at the dock to assist allowing me to dock safely with restricted manouverability. I saw him staying past the working hours to help other boaters. Not something you see often. The docks are on the river so make sure to account for currents and wind when planning your arrival. Some wake when windy so place your fenders properly. Overall, great marina.
Very nice marina. Facilities were very clean. Very friendly and helpful staff. Special thanks to Jeff.
Great staff. Extremely friendly and helpful. Clean facilities Definitely coming back
Helpful staff. Nice location to Hilton Head shopping and restaurants.
Really nice folks at this marina. We had exceptional service. The docks look brand new. Easy UBER ride to provisions and nice neighborhood to walk the dog. We really enjoyed the stay here. Watch the current - best to come and go at a slack current.
This marina is one of my favorites. You feel welcome from the moment you made the reservation. Very friendly and professional dock hands and great all around service makes this marina a top one on my list. And if that is not enough is on a beautiful location, you have to stay a couple of days and leave the marina. Shops, restaurants are all close by. For those with bikes is a very well marked bike trail that takes you from the plantation to around the town on this beautiful route.
