Great marina for a stop-over through the canal. Clean bathrooms and showers. Walking distance to grocery store and two good restaurants nearby.
Great stay. Late booking was confirmed immediately. Marina called to make sure if we were ok with the assigned mooring on the southern edge of the field (we were).
Nice marina, great location.
Great place to catch a mooring both for over-nights as well as for short stays. They have a launch and also a nice Dingy dock. Check with the launch driver when they close out for the day, especially if you go to a place to eat in Jamestown things can take longer than expected. Somebody mentioned that the Dingy dock has limited tie up times. That is only true for the town-dock. The marina itself have their own Dingy dock which does not have any time limits (it's a bit hidden away just below their little hut on the dock).
Very nice marina and nice facilities. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There was some confusion about the pile mooring we were supposed to go on. The first one we were sent to was occupied and the second one didn't have mooring lines installed. The staff did go out in the skiff to put our lines on (it is not something that is easily or safely done from a 42ft sailboat) but it all took quite a while. I would recommend for the marina to put mooring lines on all the piles. ** UPDATE ** (after staying at the marina a second time): Very similar situation. This time there was a dingy parked in the pile mooring spot that we were assigned! We had to request a different spot again. The up-side is that this time the second spot had mooring lines and we again enjoyed out stay. It's a lovely place.
We made a reservation just after midnight for a mooring for later that day via Dockwa. My reservation was neither accepted nor declined and I had to call Pirate Cove Marina in the afternoon about the request ... to find out that they didn't have a mooring available. I had asked them why they didn't decline my reservation to let me know and they shrugged it off because it was a "same day booking". I would argue that responding for those kind of bookings is even more important than for ones that are several days ahead of time. After all, boaters have to find other places to stay at night if a marina doesn't have the space. Not getting a response leaves you in limbo .... seems like a general Dockwa down-side in general. I finally got a reservation decline at 7:23 pm.
It was alright but I expected more for the high price. We came in around 7pm and were not able to hail the Doncaster on VHF. Turned out everyone had left and we had to call from our mobile. Not a big deal but why not warn us ahead of the hours? Shower and toilet facilities where pretty low standard, especially given the price of the slip.
