Tisbury Harbormaster

As of Sept. 15 launch service was done for the season. If you grab a mooring ball outside of the break water and there an easterly wind you are in for rough ride. Make sure the mooring line on the ball is sufficient size for your boat, if not get one that is. It's rather unnerving to rock and roll and break loose at 1:00 am and have to rush to set an anchor before you lose the boat.

Beautiful and quiet. Only disappointment is you can no longer anchor. Must rent a mooring when there is more than ample space to accommodate those who would like to anchor especially for a short stay of a couple of hours.

As stated before, there is no more anchoring in the lake. The moorings by the town are $70 per night. We spent one week here and enjoyed it. The dinghy dock is very crowded with three or four dinghy deep! It’s an easy 1.2 mile walk to the town. Uber is available also. Nice walking trails in the area. I would definitely recommend if complete peace and tranquility is your thing.

Always a great time at Vineyard Haven. The Tisbury Harbormaster crew is so accommodating. Morgan is always very welcoming and helpful. It's our favorite little harbor. Looking forward to our next visit!

Probably the friendliest harbor staff we’ve ever run into. We showed up with our dinghy engine acting like a grumpy toddler, and the harbor master went above and beyond—calling around for a mechanic, chauffeuring us back to our boat, even putting us on a mooring close to town so we could hop on the launch service. Honestly, she did everything short of baking us cookies. The only downside? The mooring field gets a little bouncy during the day.

Tashmoo is a spectacular area to spend an afternoon. The reservation process is a bit confusing at first, as the same reservation request form is used for 3 different areas in Tisbury. That said, the message feature worked well and Tisbury was quick to answer. One item that was a pleasant surprise was the Harbormaster checking on the moorings to ensure only those that registered were on the mooring. It was great to show up and see our reserved mooring was open. Great job Tisbury.

Can’t give it a 5 because we arrived to find another boat in our assigned slip. We had a reservation through Dockwa several days prior, so unsure how the mix-up could have occurred. The skipper of that boat said he had “extended” his stay by 2 days…which sounds to me like he had been scheduled to leave the mooring we were assigned, but decided to stay last minute and maybe arranged it with the Dockmaster. We were able to get another mooring, but these practices should be frowned upon because it impacts the confidence one might have in using Dockwa. On a positive note, we met Rebecca (assistant Dockmaster), had a wonderful discussion with her, and came away very impressed.

Communications were excellent. Mooring and pendant were robust and in good shape.

Harbormaster team was very helpful, nice showers. Only drawback is town dock has no cleats to tie up to. Otherwise would be 5 stars.

We stayed on mooring #1 in Lake Tashmoo. Lovely, quiet place to stay. We kayaked to the town dock and walked into town. A little over a mile walk. The harbor master was great with communication and special requests. We will be back.

Everything was great! Very helpful staff, looking forward to another visit

Outer harbor is a little bit wavy from the ferry traffic. We requested a mooring with 7’ minimum depth (our boat draws 6’-6”) and had just over 7 feet when we arrived a couple hours before low tide. When I called with concerns they said I would be alright. We were nearly touching at dead low tide (less than a foot of clearance). If it had been rougher I think we would have bounced off the bottom. Otherwise stay was pleasant.

We enjoyed two beautiful days & evenings on mooring #4 in Lake Tashmoo. The staff at the Harbormaster's office were most helpful in navigating the distinctions between Vineyard Haven inner and outer harbor and Lake Tashmoo moorings. It was a very positive experience.

Very clean well managed facility

Wonderful stay in Tisbury. On a mooring in the outer harbor. A little bumpy from the ferries, but nothing too difficult. Great town with restaurants, shops, and shopping all within walking distance of the dinghy dock. Harbormaster very helpful. Free water and pump out at the town dock.

Excellent service. Nice mooring. Prompt pump out boat. Also enjoyed the band concert at the town landing.

We had a wonderful stay in Vineyard Haven! The Tisbury Harbormaster was great with communication, quickly confirming our request and sending our mooring assignment and map of the mooring field in advance. The mooring was in good condition (from the surface anyway!) and the moorings are nicely spaced. VH is a great place to stop, with good facilities, restaurants, Stop 'n Shop and West Marine very accessible. The bus takes you everywhere else on the island. The only downside is the early morning ferry horn, but it comes with the territory.

Nice breeze, no bugs!

It was very nice having a water taxi from are yacht to shore. Pump out service was fabulous and we were able to drive up to the town dock and fill up with fresh water. Great having a grocery store close to the water taxi pick-up spot. (Stop&Shop )

New administration is doing a great job! Ease of Dockwa for mooring assignment payment etc. Friendly and helpful staff on top of their jobs- docking , pump out . And all conveniences a short dinghy or launch ride away. We have been coming here for over 20 years and it’s never been better.

The Tisbury Harbormaster runs a great program. Easy to get in touch with, they can accomodate as much as possible and are extremely helpful. I wish more harbors were this easy!

Too expensive for one night. I don’t think they want anybody in Tashmoo anymore, even though it is an inlet and part of Vineyard Sound that the town doesn’t own.

Beautiful view of the harbor, but moorings are outside the jetty and subject to considerable powerboat wake during the day. However, reasonably priced and very customer friendly. Good second choice option if you don't want to spend the $ for a slip in season.

Perfect spot to tie up with friends and spend the day. Tisbury harbormaster was great and easy to deal with.

Harbor master and staff were all very helpful and friendly. Very responsive and accommodated a reservation change due to unexpected delay. Showers at Owen park could use to be cleaned.

Overall it's a lovely spot - navigation was easy. Never had any interaction with the HM staff - it seems as though their presence is pretty minimal. Lots of shops nearby, but nothing open late and dining options are limited. There was a fair amount of wake traffic - and zero enforcement the 3 days we were there. Also, the ferries sound their horn from about 6a-10p, and they are VERY loud. In all we're happy with our stay and will visit again!

We had a great stay ! Asst Harbormaster Morgan Reitzas went above and beyond expectation ! He managed to get us on one of the few moorings that could handle a 47 ft sailboat - after caring it with its annual renter. We were able to top off our water and pump out before leaving after a 3 day stay. Highly recommend the harbormaster mooring field and the seamless booking and communication through Dockwa!

An early start to the season. Vineyard Haven is waking up. Harbormaster was very helpful. Your mooring assignment now shows up on Dockwa. Ground tackle has been updated. Dinghy dock needs repairs and some cleats or rails would be helpful. Of course this time of year you just wander in and get a seat by the window at the Black Dog. Always a favorite port.

Great stay in Vineyard Haven! We appreciated the Tisbury Harbormaster's team's support on a stormy day. The ability to now make reservations on Dockwa for Vineyard Haven is awesome!
