Approach

From the west At R "2" Q R WHIS south of Brenton Reef, it's a straight shot east –northeast for about 5.5 miles to G "1" BELL off Cormorant Reef. Keep south of this buoy. Then, head another 1.4 miles to R "2A" Bell at the entrance to the Sakonnet River. As you enter the Sakonnet River Be aware of the fish trap on your starboard side it is marked on your charts. This fish trap is connected to our breakwater you must go around on the north side. From here, head straight to the northeast to Fl R 4s 34 ft 8M "2" at the entrance to Sakonnet Harbor. From the east Stay at least 1 mile offshore here, and make a course for GR C at Elisha Ledge. Rounding this buoy to either side, it's about 1.6 miles west to R "2" Bell marking Schuyler Ledge, 1 mile south of Sakonnet Point. Stay to the south of R "2" Bell as you head west. Pass the R "2" Bell by about a mile, keeping a mile offshore to avoid the rocks and fish traps. (Please note the legend on your chart for the areas around Newport and Sakonnet that mark the areas where fish traps are located) There are two privately maintained Y Fl Y 2.5s markers west of West Island and about a half mile apart. These identify fish traps that are fished until about mid-June….keep them to the east. Then, turn northwest toward R "2A" Bell. Both West and East Island are uninhabited; keep a safe distance. From R "2A" Bell, it's another mile to Fl R 4s 34 ft 8M "2" on the north end of the breakwater at Sakonnet Harbor.

Great stay once again at Sakonnet Point Marina! Chris, and his team, were very helpful! A great final stop on our six week journey from Marion to Ottawa, Canada, via the Hudson River, Erie Canal, Oswego Canal, Rideau Canal and back.

Nice small marina. Great for a one-night stop over. Scenic area for walking or bike rides. Friendly staff. Not so good WiFi. The Sakonnet Point Club is sometimes available to transients for dinner. Very good food, service, and great prices for great food. Extensive menu.

In the summer 2024, Dock Master Chris Brady continues to provide an outstanding level of service and support - THE BEST, 6th year visiting . The crew at the Point club provide a great dining experience, especially appreciated after a long day of sailing, special group of people and location , thank you, the Gallagher's, see you in 2025

We spent 3 days here waiting out the rains and winds that followed hurricane Debbie up the coast. It was a great place to stop. The dockmaster and his team were extremely helpful. Tying up was easy. On the second day, when 30 mph wind gusts were forecast, the dockmaster recommended reversing the boat so it pointed into the wind. He brought a team down accomplished that without ever completely untying the boat. The marina is co-located with the private Sakonnet Point Club but $25 gets you a temporary membership for your stay. The heads, showers and pool are then available. All are in good condition. The club’s restaurant is outstanding and definitely worth a visit.

Dock crew met us and assisted with our stern tie on the starboard side. Well protected harbor, which was nice after experiencing a following sea coming in from the east. Secured a one night membership at the private club behind the marina for $25 to use shower and head (pristine!) and the privilege of dinner. The Marina made our reservation. Excellent cocktails and food - we had a lovely table with great views. Our server Spencer enthusiastically welcomed us. Great food and old world ambiance in a club built in 2008. We were comfortable in “business casual” clothes, air conditioning ultimately required an additional layer. Members were well dressed. Great place for a night!

Very nice people at marina and club. A charming combination of active fishing community and small recreational fleet plus competitive sailing out of Sakonnet YC. Makes for a plan to return often.

Thanks Chris! It was great meeting you and your family!

Stayed at their transient slip for one night on the way to Nantucket. Chris was helpful and a good communicator. Club Manager Martina was friendly and welcoming. A strong North wind (unusual direction) blew in the morning we left and getting off the dock was not easy. Plan ahead.

Chris was very friendly and helpful getting us onto the dock, providing us with marina and area information. He pointed us to a nearby beach we could walk to and in the morning helped us get to a local store for supplies. Location is a bit isolated but in a really nice way away from city bustle and noise. We're adding this to our favorites list.

We loved our stay here on Labor Day weekend. We made a last minute decision to try to stay there, submitting our request on the morning of our arrival, expecting to be turned away. Chris was so great to squeeze us in and set us up on the T dock, a great spot. I'm giving it 5 stars because we are low maintenance and don't need much from a marina. Some might find it lacking in amenities, but it's perfect for us. Thanks again, Chris for a great stay and we'll be seeing you again next season! Chris and Deb on Spirit

If you like quiet after a busy weekend in Newport or Provincetown, you’ll love it here. Looks like space is limited for transients and the restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Proximity to scenic views on both shores and quiet walks around the point.

Sakonnet Point Marina is a great stopover between Narragansett Bay and Massachusetts ports. Helpful staff, nice docks, and well protected. Use of the club facilities costs extra. The beach is a nice walk. Only issue was being next to the commercial fishing dock that was in use morning and night.

The facility is well maintained by a friendly staff. In 50 years of sailing, I’ve never encountered a ($25) charge to use a bathroom. The pool was also mentioned and featured in the pdf of the property, but use of the pool is $100. use of a private beach was mentioned, but when asked about I was referred to the town beach. The relationship between the marina and the club should be well described on the website and all publications. Otherwise, assume the $4 per foot a down payment!

Really enjoyed the location and atmosphere of a smaller marina. Sakonnett Point Club is an added bonus. Good service arriving and with delivery of ice that we requested. Only issue with the stay was the power on the two towers nearest out boat did not work. We had to resort to our gen set.

Dock hands were quite good and the slip was in very good condition. However our slip charges did NOT include access to the private adjoining club, which had the only available heads and showers and cost an additional $25 for the crew. Had we opted to enjoy the pool or fitness center the up charge was $100. Dinner in the club however was quite good.

Dock master was a great help on our first visit to this marina. But it should be noted that this is part of a Yacht Club and they do not offer any amenities including access to bathrooms with out an additional charge of $25.00. First marina we have ever encountered this. If they don't want transients to stop there they shouldn't list it.

Our stay at Sakonnet Point Marina was really extremely good. I highly recommend this marina. It is a small, well-run, welcoming marina. The dock staff is great: very friendly; they guided us into the harbor very well and assisted us in docking our sailboat and also departing the dock (sometimes a finicky experience). They went out of their way to be helpful, even providing a ride to nearby Sakonnet Vineyards (although they are not always available for that). We took advantage of the $25 "temporary membership" at the adjoining Sakonnet Yacht Club, which is definitely worth doing; it allows you access to the Club's very clean, modern showers and restroom facilities, as well as allowing you to eat at their fine on-site restaurant---which serves a nice variety of well-prepared-presented food and has great views of the ocean. The harbor is well-protected, quiet and of easy access. There are fish traps and lobster pots near the entry to the harbor, but are easily avoided if you are vigilant. A call to the marina office can provide very helpful details about the approach. Thanks to Chris, Axel, et al for a very pleasant stay.
