Port Jefferson Yacht Club

Stayed one night at an end dock in late October, while making a delivery. ( 47 ft. sail/7 ft draft) They responded quickly on Dockwa with my reservation request and answered all my questions via text. Joe the Launch Driver was great! , guided us in via radio, met us at the dock and helped us tie up and hook up power. Showers were great. People were nice! Would definitely stay there again.

This is a special location with very special dockmaster that went beyond his role to make our experience outstanding

I was really surprised and delighted with how nice a stop this was. Loved the location. People at the Club were terrific. Facilities excellent. Totally accommodating. I went there to connect with a visiting friends. I would go again just for a destination. Sailed over from CT shoreline.

Stayed for the night in late Oct. Great location right in town. They were nice and helpful. Although they did not answer to phone call nor Dockwa messages they were very responsive to VHF radio once in the harbor.

We had tried to anchor in the harbor, but couldn’t get it to hold. The winds were picking up dramatically so we inquired late afternoon at the PJYC to see if they could put us on a mooring. Fortunately the club was still open and was able to take us. They were very responsive any time we had an inquiry or needed the launch. Bathrooms were very clean and there is a nice sitting area off of them. We especially appreciated the fellows who were running the launch in the high winds and waves—much better than having to deal with our dinghy in such conditions. The mooring ball had two lines but one of ours was wrapped around the other and hidden from view until low tide. We were able to untangle it, but if we hadn’t been able to do so, the launch advised us to switch to another nearby mooring ball. We let them know that we had both lines on but they cared enough to come out in the unfavorable conditions to doubly make sure that we were ok.

Comfortable mooring

What sets this marina apart is the level of attention to a visitor's needs: the Dockwa page provides extensive information about the marina including maps of the docks and mooring field, along with approach guidance, and useful information about local shops, restaurants and activities. They were responsive and accommodating with respect to my reservation, which I had to move due to some unforeseen problems with my boat that delayed my arrival.

I usually stay at the PJYC several times a year as a good location when working my way East or West through the LI sound. Good protection except when the wind is out of the North. It appears that the moorings were recently upgraded with new pick up sticks. Good proxmity to restaurants. Joe the launch operator is fantastic, and while other yacht clubs and Marinas appear ro be cutting back on when launches are operating, PJYC has them operating until 11 or 11:30 pm in season and until around 9:30pm off season. THE BAD NEWS: THE MEN'S ROOM IS USUALLY GROSS ( LADIES ROOM IS LARGER BUT NOT MUCH BETTER.) BOTH ONLY HAVE ONE TOILET AND ONE SINK ( TWO SHOWERS). ON A RECENT VISIT, MEN'S ROOM TOILET WAS STUFFED AND DISGUSTING. NOT THE FIRST TIME. SHOWER DRAINS HAVE BEEN BACKED UP. IT IS TIME TO UPGRADE THE REST ROOM FACILITIES.

We love using the moorings at the PJYC. It’s easy to walk to town. The moorings are also close to their dinghy dock if you bring your dinghy, if not they do have launch service. Even though Port Jeff is the next harbor West from ours we love to go there for a little get away that feels like a vacation.

Hi, loved the Yacht Club and the mooring field was very quiet with a short launch ride to shore. Commodore and everyone at the YC were super friendly and the launch ran till11:30 as we were there on a Friday. Great protected harbor, we enjoyed our short stay.

Very pleasant stay at PJYC 8/13 &14th! Facility was great and convenient to the village. Ther restroom facilities are a bit dated but were clean. More docks have been added this year and we were able to stay in a transient slip. The launch captains were very friendly and made us feel welcome - thank you PJYC!

I love this spot this was my third time renting a mooring for a day trip. PJYC will come pick you up within a few minutes of calling and it’s a nice short walk through the park to downtown Port Jeff. Everyone I bring here loves it.

The mooring field was small but protected as we were there during a storm. Loved biking through town. We were able to have a boat party at the Yacht club.

This is a great place to stay close to town but far enough away that it’s quite at night : the moorings are yellow and should have the # on both sides so you can see it but instead they have most of it taken up with PJYC which is a drag when your coming in looking - also they take several calls on the vhf to answer. But still a great stat

Second year staying on mooring, launch operators are great. They assisted in finding mooring and respond quickly for pickup. Wouldn’t stay anywhere else. Walking distance to town.

A1 great place tender service was awesome

our club has reciprocity with Port Jefferson Yacht Club and hence we were happy to be able to dock our 21ft rib for a few hours between 11-5pm. Last year, I did the same and left the boat overnight for about 24 hours and a very reasonable rate. This time, the rate was $165 which seems excessive considering the nature of this 6 hour tie-up during the day only. Otherwise very friendly and good communication.

Efficient launch service. Enjoyed the bar on Saturday night. Easy walk to many good restaurants.

Pleasant stay as always. Launch service to shore is reliable, shower facilities are well maintained, and people are friendly. It is a very easy stroll into town from the dock .

We go to Port Jefferson every year and stay with the Yacht Club. Other than the occasional ferry the mooring field is very calm, especially overnight. The launch runs from 8a-11p, longer than most others. The local park offered concerts and a movie Wednesday and Thursday nights. When open, you’ll find warm and welcoming members at the Yacht Club.

PJYC was great. Good service at the dock. Reasonably clean facilities. Great location.

My stay at PJYC was great. The staff were all accommodating and friendly. The facilities are solid with a comfortable lounge outside the restrooms and showers. Launch service was always quick and efficient. I would be happy to stay there again anytime.

Always nice and peaceful and tenders run continuously which is very nice. Pumpout boats come to the mooring field as well. Very much enjoyed our stay.

Just great people, a beautiful harbor, and a quaint town. Could not have been easier or better. The launch master that ferries us from the mooring balls to the marina is fantastic, and they all know how to be efficient and very accommodating.

We are new to this type of travel. We are on a very small boat too. They put us directly in front of the club. So the mooring and pickup were very easy. The club members were very helpful. We went straight for the club house and miss the boat house where we would have be given info for shower access. Fortunately did not need to retrace our steps, members provided the access. Had a great time. Would recommend the PJYC to everyone.

Excellent location and facilities. Club staff and Club Officers were very friendly and accommodating. This is a great stop for itinerant sailors or to hole up in a storm. It looks like a very active sailing club and if I lived near Port Jefferson I would join.

Had a dinner reservation on shore. At last minute, told that the launch service only ran until 6 PM. Had to cancel reservation. Website says service runs until 11 PM. Would have been nice to know. No discount for the mooring, of course.

This was our first time here and definitely will come back in the spring. Very nice & easy to come into the harbor. There is a launch as well a park next door. Definitely would like to stay longer in the spring.

A small yacht club, the dock hand was helpful. It's in a good location, and has floating docks that are in good shape. Unfortunately due to the weather, it was very rocky there, even at night. Nice, little park next door. Has bathrooms with showers. I would stay there again, for an overnight trip, or to see Port Jefferson ( a great town for transients).

We enjoyed our stay on a mooring. It was perfect for us to get in and out of town for dinner, but good also to take our dinghy to the dunes with our kids. Showers were good and staff was nice. Thank you!

Very clean showers and bathroom. Everyone was really nice. Launch service was pleasant and they have great hours. Will definitely return next season and stay longer. If you are traveling with a dog- no issues getting around here. I think the dog even had a good time.

We were at the end of the T and had to run our Seakeeper the entire week because it is so rough from the ferry coming in. Shower facilities are less than average. No fuel, no pump out during the week. Would have been nice to know that before docking. Otherwise, the town is great and well worth visiting.

Super friendly and very responsive.... Will definitely come again. Last time we had to cancel last minute because of technical problems and they were very helpful.

This is our 3rd stay at the Port Jefferson Yacht Club and once again enjoyed our stay. We had mooring C1, which is close to the docks. Launch service was great and the staff friendly and accommodating. The Yacht club is a short walk into town, if desired. If you are going to Port Jeff, this is a great option!

Port Jefferson Yacht Club is an excellent and welcoming club for visiting guests. The launch operation is top shelf. . One of our “ go to” destinations and we always feel welcomed by the folks we meet. The location couldn’t be better. Thank you PJYC for all you do. Unrelated to PJYC but important to cruising boaters just another bonus to this location; If you’re a Stop & Shop customer, you can go on the app to order supplies and Stop & Shop will deliver the groceries to you!

PJYC facilities are excellently maintained, and Port Jefferson is a friendly, well endowed town, with restaurants and shops within easy walking distance of the club. Dog Friendly, everywhere!!

Very good stay. The dock aster was very helpful guiding us to our slip and over to the pump out at the town dock. Fantastic location close to the beautiful town. Restrooms and showers are a bit of a walk from the docks, but all in all a great place to stop.

We had some problems with our transmission coming into the mooring field and the launch operator was wonderful coming out and taking us in to our mooring.

Port Jefferson Yacht Club not only confirmed the reservation request quickly, but also followed up immediately with a mooring assignment. The launch operator Joe Gatz played a key roll in saving our wayward dingy; going above and beyond to ensure our happy reunion with her.

Easy in an out. They were very responsive to all our prior contact and when we were actually on site. Will return.

Small marina, mostly intended for transient boats requiring mooring. The are some slip for boats, docked at the main deck. Recently redone and looks much much better. Very helpful staff, and very nice/friendly commodore. Convenient to the down town PJ shops / restaurants, and friend club members. We recently stayed in their mooring and it was quite nice. If you are going to be in Port J, highly recommend that to give them a try.

Where to start? We are a sailboat and there were 18kts of wind at the dock. This was our first time in Port Jefferson. One of the dockhands who did help yelled at us (and the other sailboats who docked) to the extent that his partner actually apologized. Because Of the wind we went bow in, which started another set of problems. For $5 a foot I would have expected power and water at least on our side of the dock. Instead we had to stretch our power cord across the dock, with resulting problems keeping it flat on the dock and plugged in. The heads and showers are in the yacht club building, which is fine, except that it is outside the gates, which are locked at midnight til 8 am. They also shoehorned a very nice, beamy power yacht next to us. The captain did a masterful job getting her in without hitting us, but there were empty slips elsewhere. The location is good, but i would use a mooring ball next time.

Nice town, solid moorings. The PJYC moorings are relatively close to shore (a good thing) and there are more moorings than those belonging to PJYC, a lot more. This gives for a crowded mooring field, which on a quiet night is not an issue at all, where it not for a 48ft Sundancer that felt the need to leave its generator on 24hrs. I consider this rude. I don't know if there were any 'rules' around it or how they could be enforced. Hence the 4 star.

We love port Jeff! First thing we like is being able to reserve a mooring, which includes free launch. Second is its easy to get in and out of the channel. Third is everything is walking distance!

The Club was very nice and accommodating. Our club cruise group had 13 sailboats on our 2 week summer cruise. We enjoyed hor's doevres we brought on the club deck,. What a view!. Hidden gem, nice and quite… now if we can get the water taxi to slow down to 20mph… that would be great. No issues at all.

We stayed here a couple of years ago and had a terrible experience. After we wrote a tough but honest review, we were contacted by the Commodore who was very nice and solicitous. Because of that outreach, we decided to try again. 1) The Club has undergone some nice renovations and added slips at the dock. Then showers were much improved but not cleaned very well. 2) The highlight of our stay was a visit to the bar on Friday evening. It was staffed by volunteer members who were friendly, generous and provided above expectations service. We has a nice time there and enjoyed ourselves. 3) The launch driver on Friday evening was incompetent and unfriendly. When we called for pick-up he forgot us and had to be re-called. Each time he took us back to our boat he could not find us by the mooring number and we had to direct him to our boat. He drove the launch fast and uncomfortably aggressively. He had a bad attitude and was rude to us. He closed at 11:30 despite the website saying it ran until midnight. The morning was not better. We started calling the launch at 8:00, the announced start time. Others were also calling, all with no response. At 8:15, I called the dock house number, which picked up. The launch driver answered and said they were "setting up." When I commented that it was 8:15 and they were supposed to start at 8:00, he repeated gruffly that they were setting up and hung up. When we were picked up, he was unfriendly to the point of rudeness. When I asked him to back the launch up to match our lifeline gate, he did so without looking where he was going. I had to tell him when to stop backing. (I consider this a serious safety violation.) On our return trip, he also did not know mooring locations by their numbers, and we had to direct him to our boat. The location of the club and its moorings is perfect. But the launch service was by far the worst we experienced in our trip from New Jersey to Block Island and back. Once more, we won't be staying again.

We moored here for two nights on our way to Sag Harbor. Mooring was convenient to fuel at Danfords and location was very calm despite the port Jefferson ferry that frequently went back-and-forth to Connecticut. Launch service is part of the mooring fee and is very convenient to get into town. Several good restaurants in town and lots of ice cream shops! A nice little park next to the yacht club that had live bands most nights we were there, but other than that not much going on in the town.

Friendly, informative launch service (they'll be glad to tip you to good restaurants) and the bathrooms were spotless. The ice was both block and cubes (Blocks getting harder to find) And there was water on the docks. Yes I will return.

Very protected. Booked late afternoon for a night time arrival. Wifi worked. Didn't go to shore...

Dock plugs were pretty loose. Slight rocking from passing boats, but nothing to really complain about. Helpful dock hand. Generally well protected. We'll be back

Safe, warm, friendly- a perfect place to tuck in as you sail Long Island Sound

Cute town. Quiet mooring even in high wind. Staff a bit testy, nor were they aware of the mooring assignment provided by Dockwa and approved by PJYC. We were greeted by "Yeah, what do you want" on channel 71 when announcing our arrival, they also wanted to know why we were on the mooring assigned via email ("that will probably be ok")and were not aware we had reserved and paid for two nights, not one. I know businesses have had to deal with staffing shortages as of late, which I understand and appreciate, however, the nature of this customer service did not seem to be due to that.

Great stay. Luke that the Moorings are far away from ferry traffic. Launch driver was very nice and helpful. We prefer yacht clubs because money helps youngsters learn to sail.

We arrived late and left early so we didn’t get to sample any of the amenities in Port Jefferson. From what I could hear on Channel 68, the launch service was busy, responsive and very helpful. Coming into the port, we got excellent instructions from the club as to how to find our mooring. The town looked fascinating so if the opportunity presents itself, we’ll stop here again - and stay long enough to enjoy it.

Best move for us great dock, nice people will be back next year. Spent 2 days no issues easy in and out. Mike and the dockmaster were awesome.

Due to a hurricane coming up the coast, we needed to change our travel plans. Floating docks were laid out to have the fixed pilings outside of the dock causing us to lay up on the pilings contacting our rub rails (Defeating the purpose of a floating dock). They did have rub bumpers installed on the inside to protect their floating dock but nothing on the outside to protect the boats. The marina had a bar to offset this but only if you had a railing to to it to which we did not have on the stern. Suggestion would be to install rub bumpers on the pilings to protect the boats the boats. Dock staff was average in boating knowledge and really did not want our input on how we wanted to tie up. If we travel to that area again, we would look for other options.

They have changed the pendant line on the mooring to stainless wire? Warning very sharp hard to hold on to .! Very unnerving as the sound of the wire scratches your boat .

easy use of dockwa since they sent us the mooring #. good launch service in terrible rainy weather. problem was with wifi. there is a network and password but the network was not accessible at our mooring and they seemed to have no idea why and could not fix it.

The Yacht Club was clean . The Launch Drivers were prompt and knowledgeable. We went to the restaurant that they recommended, and we were very pleased.

We loved it, it was clean , the dock hands were professional and friendly. Next time we hope to stay for several days. And we really liked the town . The giant candy / ice cream store has Vegan Ice Cream @ Roger Frigate”

Great launch service, nice and clean bathrooms and showers with air conditioning, well-protected mooring, easy access to the city, very friendly and inviting yacht club members. We were concerned about our mooring holding our 20 ton boat during Tropical Storm Elsa, but we managed fine. Thank you very much!

Great place to visit, we stayed five nights, Yacht club/water taxi folks are very helpful. The bathroom /shower was clean, but tile floor is slippery. Need to add more hangers 7chair so you can sit and change. I will look forward to returning.

Bathroom at the dock was closed, had to walk to the main club house and get a Code from a member, everything else was pretty good

We came in to port Jeff and wanted to grab lunch and walk around for a few hours. The other marina was charging $2 per foot per hour. PJYC was only $30 for 3 hours. Upon arrival I radioed in and they told me where I could hook up. Once on the ball I radioed ion and it took about 10 minutes for them to come get me, but they seemed pretty busy so it wasn't a big deal. Friendly service, would definitely return!

We were assigned mooring number C4 but it was occupied. We were then assigned D4 and when tying up one of the cleat lines was tangled up forcing us to get on our paddle board to disentangle ourselves. A storm was coming and we wanted both cleat lines secure. The launch service is excellent and timely. Nice private area to moor your boat.

Port Jefferson Yacht club never disappoints. Great staff, gorgeous harbor and plenty of places to check out.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. AJ was a great facilitator. The launch operators were prompt, courteous, and engaging. The YC is in a perfect location close to downtown PJ and it’s shops and restaurants. We definitely recommend and will be back. Word of caution: make sure to pick up the mooring wand. Ours was tangled in one of the pendants and we did not take the time on arrival to untangle it. In the course of an overnight and swinging around the mooring, one pendant got trapped beneath the ball, capturing the wand further, which then etched our bow. We finally got it untangled and pulled the wand aboard.
