Very convenient location to rest the "crew" after crossing the canal or before doing so. Good holding. Not too crowded across two weeks that we went east and then west. The dinghy ride to the town pier is a bit of a ride but distance wide is not too different from Provincetown, Vineyard haven or various other anchorages in the region. Wickets island can be explored although not much to see just a panoramic view of the anchorage and the beach. The channel to get in and out is pretty narrow don't get distracted we saw a boat grounded at low tide cause it went a bit too far. Harbormaster office responded to my calls to ask for information about the anchorage so grateful for that. Definitively will likely use it again in the future
We came here in Summer of 2025 on our 42 foot sailboat. Very well protected harbor. Very active Harbormaster office very responsive on the radio, very responsive in Dockwa, very active on land and visible all around. We went from asking for our stay to be reduced to asking for it to be extended and these guys accommodated our requests at the height of summer. Only thing that could use improvement is the showers. They are very spartan. They could use a bench and a mirror. But overall very recommendable.
We spent 7 days going to Gloucester, Portsmouth and Rockport. Rockport by far gets the prize. The cutest little harbor with the most quaint downtown. The harbormasters are all over the place the week prior to us being there they saved a father-daughter duo that sank outside the breakwater. So these guys are great. Very tight mooring if you are on a 40+ but their team of young folks were very helpful and patient. We did it much better the second time coming south :). Definitively recommend it.
Inner harbor mooring is not bad. The fishing fleet seems careful not to hit us with the wakes. Harbormaster was very responsive on dockwa. That said we really wanted to shower and our experience was consistent with feedback from other sailors… cold water just after a few seconds of starting it up. That was a bummer. They said they will look into it
The kids working on this marina are 5 star plus. BUT the current on the mooring is insane. Very rolly and the. The fishing fleet comes out at 5 am rocked us with a huge wake. Go across to safe harbor better option
Can't say enough good things about these folks. The Harbormaster was super responsive before we arrived helping us understand the modality of their dock. Then the assistants in the dock were very motivated and professional. Finally we had a mechanical failure leaving the harbor had to nurse out boat back to the dock to do repairs and they were once again very understanding of our situation and cooperative to the max. Aside from that it is a very well protected harbor, the town is very quaint and the vibe around the whole bay there seems very vibrant. Hope to get our boat fixed and come back next season with more time !
Location is great. Views of Boston skyline wonderful specially at the island height. Music band playing was awesome. Beach is great waves don't break on it so dinghy landings/launch are fairly easy. Personnel in the island very good at responding they may not answer the phone but they responded to my voice mail on dockwa. However giving it 4 stars because this is a pretty rolly mooring even with winds from the east. And it is not the boats driving by as some have said. at sunset with no traffic we got rolled pretty good couple of times. Would recommend it just be aware it will not be glassy out there.
Location is awesome right next to the MayFlower. Price for the moorings was a great deal. Very helpful Harbormaster Assistants came in the boat and pointed our mooring for us. The Maritime facility is brand shining new. The showers are 5 star hotel level. The city was very quaint we loved walking around it. Definitively very recommendable
Location can't be beat right in the middle of downtown. Very helpful staff were on the shuttle boat to guide us to our mooring. Shuttle service folks were always very courteous and upbeat. Facilities couldn't be used because we arrived in the unprecedented "sewer emergency" day. However the staff tried to do the best they could to point us to open restaurants or other atractions. Very recommendable if a bit on the pricey side.
Safe harbor is expensive but you get the royal treatment. Instant response on the radio, a boat came to meet us and guided us to our mooring, super fast shuttle to the marina open until 10pm I mean you really can’t ask for much more. Very convenient location as well
Mooring is exposed to just about every direction but East-SE. very good depth. Easy access to the beach north of the ferry dock. Nice Fort to visit and great grounds to watch Boston and great sailboats going out to the ocean and back. It’s can be rolly in winds above 10kt mooring but still worth it. Dockwa reservation was easy and very responsive folks on the island prior to arrival
Ferrying my new boat from RI to MA stopped in Sandwich Marina for 1 overnight. very helpful staff allowed me to take a slip eventhough season had not officially started. They gave me an easy to dock slip given I am a newbie however the night of I found my spot taken by a 60ft Oceanis :(. Had to do all the maneuvering I was trying to avoid in the first place. He apparently came after hours. Hopefully not a usual occurrence. Fishermen fleet is also noisy in the wee hours so if you are a light sleeper keep that in mind.
Stopped for the night en route to Mass from RI with our new to us 42 foot boat. Mark was amazing. He changed our mooring the day of to offer us better protection and came out on his motor boat to help us with the actual hookup. Highly recommendable location and very easy approach.
