Quiet, āOld Styleā boat yard, directly across from the bustle of Newport. Exposed in a Nortb breeze, and some boat wakes. Amenities minimal, but not too far from town.
Well-protected but shallow. 3 commercial marinas: One corrupt (managed by harbormaster), one incompetent (drops classic yachts, dismasts boats with free-swinging crane) and one very pricey. No rental moorings, no anchorage on more than 2ā depth. Hazards include free-ranging derelict municipal floats.
Nice place, convenient friendly. Yes, the outer moorings are a bit rolly.
For location and ambiance, five stars! Amazing place! Lovely town(s), great restaurants, Welcoming spectators as we passed through the drawbridges. Hospitality and facilities -not so much, for our pre-season visit. Cantankerous bridge operators. No showers, no laundry, no pump out (closest is a two hour round trip away!). No warm water in the nearby restroom. Ice wasnāt on site, but our host tracked it down for us, much appreciated. Great place to visit, but we didnāt find basic cruising services.
Pricey, a bit of traffic noise, long walk from transient dock to facilities. Restaurant onsite is nice, dock staff helpful. Location perfect for a run up the bay.
Location, Location, Location. Pricey by marina standards, with very limited amenities (shower and facilities open during business hours, but public restrooms - maybe 24 hour - are close by). Dock crew is helpful and proactive. Sited in a vibrant noisy modern urban park, just under the Brooklyn Heights Promenade. Fabulous restaurants nearby, and presumably everything else a bustling trendy downtown can offer. 10 minute walk to Court St/Borough Hall subway station, or a pleasant walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. On the water, have your Eldridge current charts handy for a tour of the harbor, or a fast run up the East River. Commercial traffic outside the marina can be overwhelming on weekdays. Did I mention LOCATION? Multi-million dollar views!
Harbormaster helpful and responsive, for last minute request on a busy weekend. This is a tiny busy noisy harbor, consider an outside mooring for privacy.
VH village is a bit of a madhouse in August, but otherwise perfect!
